Thursday night at Barrie Speedway marks a special one as it marks the Second Annual Garry Reynolds Memorial. Last year, the first verse in honor of Barrie Speedway’s all-time race winner Garry Reynolds with Mike Bentley taking the win.
The line-up for this year’s show looks just as good, if not stronger, than last year’s.
Mike Bentley will be back to defend his race winner title on the heel of a season full of success at Sunset Speedway. Currently sitting second in Sunset’s points, Bentley has five feature victories, including one M.R.E Pro Series win. Though his success at Barrie Speedway is unprecedented as he has only made three feature starts there, winning two while finishing second in the third.
Continuing the family honor, Kevin Reynolds will be back once again this year as part of the show.
NASCAR Canadian Tire Series drivers Mark Dilley and Kerry Micks will be attendance. Dilley will be driving the same car that he drove to a fourth place finish at Sauble’s Dash for Cash earlier this month. Meanwhile, Micks will return to Barrie to try this event once again after having a strong car last year, though came up short due to mechanical problems.
Barrie Speedway Points leader Dwayne Baker will be in attendance. The ‘Bully’ has had a stellar season to date, winning 12 features and having 22 top fives in 26 starts this season. He came close last year, though could not catch Bentley in the late stages of the race.
Barrie Speedway veteran Gord Shepherd will be in attendance, looking to build on his 2012 season success of 22 top fives in 26 starts. The season though hasn’t gone as well as the No. 10 team would have hoped, though, with only one win on the season.
Another Barrie Speedway veteran in the form of Keith McLeod will be in attendance. McLeod has also had a good season this year, winning seven features while sitting second in points.
It will be a tough field as another Barrie Speedway veteran has confirmed his attendance – Al Inglis. Inglis is always tough as you can always find him near the front of the pack. He has two wins and 21 top fives in 26 starts.
Barrie Speedway Late Model rookie Shawn Murray will be in attendance. The 2011 NASCAR Whelen Series Division III Champion has had success since moving up to the Late Model division as of late, winning a feature each of the past three weekends.
Fellow Barrie Speedway rookie Thayne Hallyburton will join Murray in the race. Hallyburton has found success too, scoring 25 top 10s in 26 feature starts this season, including nine top fives.
Dave Lewis will not be attendance, however Rob Bromley will be driving Lewis’ No. 33 Late Model.
Beyond those mentioned, you can add Mike Brown and Robin Jongen to the “Barrie Speedway” drivers going. You also have a strong possibility of seeing Andre Pepin, Glen Lloyd and Roy Manary.
Dario Capirchio will be making an appearance at Barrie Speedway once again. The Sunset Speedway regular is looking for a strong run following a third place feature finish this past weekend.
Another Sunset driver joining Capirchio is Gary Elliott. Elliott had a tough start to 2012, though has turned it around with some solid feature finishes as of late.
Varney Motor Speedway driver Tommy Robb will be attending the event, despite recently losing his sponsorship. Robb has had a strong season at Varney, winning five features this year.
In the bag of rumors, there is the possibility of seeing both Barrie Speedway Thunder Car regulars Rick Walt and Jim Belesky in Late Models. Sunset Speedway regular Taylor Holdaway has also announced the possibility of being at the event.
Don’t also be surprised if Sauble Speedway’s Jason Parker is in attendance. Parker is known for going to a variety of invitationals and may be in attendance.
This is only the confirmed drivers as there could be more there beyond what has been discussed in the past two weeks. The only thing that is certain is it will be a good show that any fan will not want to miss. With the grandstand general admission being $15.00 and there also being a Thunder Car invitational on hand, too, it is expected that attendance will be high.
Great work Ash!!! I have it on pretty good authority that a 3rd NCATS driver will be making the start in a pretty solid piece!!! 😉
