Ironically Barrie invitational was one of the races this year I was thinking of brining my 5 year old daughter to. Just like Dan, I didn't know, and I would've done the same thing, turn around and go back home.
If I was local to you guys, I simply would not run Barrie as a regular and run Sunset instead for that reason alone. My daughter is part of my family, and if she is not welcome, I am not either.
If she's going to get hit sitting on my car hauler, the track has some bigger safety concers. If I am so stupid as to let her run behind your car, do you really want to be on the track with someone that stupid?
Where I would be steaming mad is if I had a 11-14 year old son. Thats right when he should be in the pits learning. Think about Brandon Watson for goodness sake. Wasn't he racing at Barrie before he was 14?
How smart would it be to start a kid in a car, who has never been allowed in the pits, and has no knowledge 1st hand of what breaks on cars during a race. He dosn't even have road driving experince to fall back on. That he's pitted for someone and seen 1st hand say sheet metal cut a tire down ect ect, he's going to have a better understanding on the track.
Dunno about you Thunder, but when I am backing up my car, I can't see a 300 lb man behind me in places. Thats why I use someone to guide me out... Just makes sence.
I know BSW will not change this..it has been this way for a very long time.
I think the age shld be around 12, let's face it, for every well behaved 6 year old, there are 10 that are not...I think this falls under the male insurance type of deal..we all arent fast and wreckless but a few give us a bad wrap to the insurance companies...
Ross, my team consists of me, and my friend Kenny, who also drives, and someone else who crews for another driver. We try to make the most of the resources we have.
Quite often there is no one to guide us out.
No offence to Dan or you, but maybe it is the rules of the house you were raised in that you like. And I wasn't suggesting that either of you are bad parents, but it's the same as bad drivers, there are some in every group.
😉 we are always saying there is only few up and coming young drivers here yet we dont let the next generation of possible drivers into the pits, coincidence ::)

You deal with it on a individual basis. The kids that are going to get hit, are not hiding. They are running around in the pits on their own. Not hard to staff to spot and correct the problem. Can't control your kids, you are ask to leave.
There was one minor isssue where some kids were running around at Mosport. I stress MINIOR. The parents we spoken to, an warning was given at the drivers meeting and that ended the MINOR issue before it become a bigger one.
To ban all kids from the pits, is as silly as to ban all drivers from the track because there are a few meatheads out there.
