Well, this side of the board seems really stagnant so I figure its time to break down my predictions for the awards banquet .. Keep in mind I try not to involve our 2011 points champs in any further awards if at all possible!! 😉
Late Models
Points Champ-- #57 Ron "The Dominator" Quesnelle -- joins a rather elusive club among Simcoe County's most informed race ennficinato's in capturing this title... Let alone the magnitude of the 13 feature wins amassed along the way in doing it!! 😉
Rookie of the Year -- #4 Glenn Lloyd -- I believe the only one that qualifies, but a total class act every time out and also made nice progressive strides weekly..
Best Lookin Car -- #54 "Raging" Randy Bull -- the 2010 Pete champ really stepped up his game come Mid Season, but this award falls to the most immaculate ride, and it would be hard to pass up the Randy's Tree and Landscaping Camaro SS for this one.. No matter the damage incurred in prior weeks, Randy always brought a pristine looking car to the track.. Honorable mention to the 28 of Jongen, but not a full time driver..
Most Sportsmanlike -- #11 John Gaunt -- hard to argue with this one.. Bit of a disappointing year for the 11, but still managed 3 feature wins along the way..Exudes total class every time out.. The gentleman of racing if you will.. 😉
Hard Charger -- #69 Al " Red Rocket" Inglis -- (who else??) the 2010 track champ will be missed around BSW if his 2012 plans hold true..
Perserverance Award -- #55 Steve Quesnelle -- still a factor week in and week out despite 8 years and counting on the same crate motor, with marginally more funding, bigger and better things are bound to be on the horizon for the 2003 track champ.. A "true racer" in every sense of the word..
Best Marketed Team -- #10 Gord Shepherd -- just look at the sponsors along the quarter panels of the #10 BFI CANADA/ Montana's Cookhouse/ Peter and Dave Shellswell/ Shepherd Trucking Ford Fusion.. Have I mentioned enough sponsors yet?? You get the picture I'm sure, and this is why Gord is my choice for this award, add in his appearances at Delaware which gains BSW a bit more recognition province wide..
Hard Luck Award -- #2 "Hometown" Mike Brown -- Cant think of one who might of replaced more body panels this year, some of his doing and some taken along the way of the innocent bystander.. Mechanical failures also caused at least 2-3 DNF's making Brown's final year end point stature a more impressive..
Top Wrench -- #8 Dave Lewis -- after a bad wreck in early June the Adams Home Comfort/ Dial Liquidations team battled back to record its 2nd feature win of the season in late August and seemed to be gaining a tonne of steam just as the season concluded..
SPECIAL AWARD Garry Reynolds Tributary-- (for years of dedication and promotion in regards to Barrie Speedway ) -- #28 Robin Jongen.... Again hard to argue, but the things Robin has done over the years in regards to mall shows/promotional appearances wont be forgotten anytime soon.. Let alone his pleasant demeanour and marketability for the younger crowd during autograph sessions and such makes this guy a very deserving 1st time winner of my newly created award... 😉 That's it for now... Thunders come tomorrow..
