I guess I shouldn't have jumped down anybody throat, we're all in this together. The idea just seemed forign to me of spending money like that on parts I can easly fab myself (I build my own glides, Qjets, A arms, chassis, everything but the motor since crates took over). My friends and I all build our hot rods and kustoms as a club (Lead Kings) we have guys who can and can't do things but between all of us we can pretty much do a whole car for virtualy nothing in labour. My racecar pretty much gets done the same way and I do as much as I can to help fellow racers out. I guess if you need to pay for it your no less of a racer ( we need as many of us as possible) it's just something that is so far off my radar that at first glance it seemed rediculous. It's not fair of me to judge, and it seems that hard core DIY guys like me may be in the minority. As this is just a hobby I wrestle all the time with the cost issue myself, I can run 5-10th for the $5000 i'v got into the car and make enough to just about cover operating costs. It will likely cost me minimum another $5-6000 in upgrades to the car to run up front and only make at most $200 more to run in the top 5. It's a choice we all need to make.
I'm home for he weekend now so time to get off the 'puter and back to a poor ol' 55 Pontiac that needs a new front clip.
we need more people like you with that kind of thinking to make racing survive. i too race on a very limited budget, we try to do as much of work as possible ourselves and to me that makes it more fun. there are probably more out there who tried to race like that but got frustrated at being beat by a big wallet . i do not care if i am up front , at the back, or middle of the pack, i am out there doing what i want to do and enjoying it. hope to see that 55 pontiac back out at kawartha next season.
