Maybe this will help find an answer to the question some are asking....
Just spitballing here. Barrie and Sunset have always had a unique opportunity as they draw from the same pool. Back in the day Wednesdays and Saturdays seemed to work but I don't think that would work today, however, both tracks could still run Saturdays if, and its a BIG IF, they ran LLM and SS/Thunder on alternating weekends. The minis and pure stocks would run as they do now but run SS at Sunset and LLM at Barrie on one Saturday then switch it up. The LLM counts would go up and also the SS. The two fan bases are slightly different. There could even be a common prize pool / entry fee for those two classes and since the two tracks are different it might make for an interesting championship run in the divisions. Could be a win/win. Or maybe I have had too much Forty Creek today 😉
Sunset has no reason to share anything. What's the upside for Sunset? To help Barrie? Sunset is the big dog on the street right now. They have a good show, one of if not the best in the province on a week to week basis. So why would they want to share that? As it is, most of the good cars from Barrie come for the specials anyway. This is business, the strong survive. It's not on Sunset to worry about the health of Barrie speedway.

I don't think anyone is arguing that Sunset owes Barrie anything and you are correct with your basic statement. All the debate about this subject over the years has been about how to keep these two tracks competitive and give local racers more opportunities. I remember when the roles were reversed and Sunset was holding on by their fingernails and Barrie was the "place to be". It has swung back and forth over the last 40 years and it is not likely to change until they either work together or one goes belly up. Simcoe County Racers have great opportunities to race at several different locations. If Barrie closes then the racers are at the mercy of whoever owns Sunset at that time. Mark Dilley won't always be running Sunset. As I recall someone with that same name ran Barrie for a while.
Mark Dilly doesnt want to see any race track close, im sure...But he built up Barrie at the time to make a buck, he wasnt worried about Sunset trust me, and now its the same way again. Just talk to him some time. Hes worried about HIS project, I dont think he really cares one way or the other about OTHER PEOPLES projects. Buy something cheap, build it up, ....and dump it while its hot.
If Brad Moran or Mark Dilly or Gord Coates ever buy Barrie back....you heard it here FIRST!! 😀
