Yes Flamboro has that claim rule and it has been there for many years, it got used a few years ago to try and claim the #95's motor Kevin Potter if I am not mistaken and now it's the #38 Bill Pearsall, great guy and now coming into his own there, won three features in a row, wish they had that rule at Barrie, would've seriously thought about getting the DogMans motor and tearing it down to satisfy alot of drivers curiousities as to how far he went to try and win a championship with pocket change he has, LOL. Didn't work out for him!!!!
Claim rules are an idea, and and not a very good one IMHO. They use the claim rules in IMSA modifieds and everyone races for fourth. Is that what we want here? I certainly don't. We would have a big crash on the last lap of every feature with everyone trying to sandbag to get fourth so they would not be claimed and lose the motor they have thousands into for (IIRC) $600. I say get a bulldog for a tech man instead (hmm, sounds a little like the one they let go?), you have to start somewhere. Funny thing is $600 doesn't buy you very much as far as a 350 goes, you could quadruple that pretty easy for just a basic rebuild (from ANYBODY, certainly not a Howard) by the time you include a core. And thats $600 complete, no intake, no carb, no pan, start all over. No thanks, someone would propbaly claim my engine to put it in their pickup truck.
I maybe one of the few people that saw the last complete Late Model claimed in a race in Canada (1966) for $1500 you got it all just roll it on your trailer. The rule was changed the next year so you could only claim the motor .
I have known Pearsall since he was racing Go Karts and those guys got themselves a heck of a deal for $ 500
