Barrie Night 4 -- Quesnelle Golden Once Again

Ok really quick rundown of the nights events.. For the 2nd time this year both LLM features won by #57 Ron Quesnelle in his Sunrise Toyota Camry.. Make that 5 feature wins in 7 races for the dominant team based out of Penetang.. Clearly Ron is showing himself to be the class of the field early on, driving from 6th and 8th place starting positions to take both 30 lap wins.. First feature was pretty entertaining.. Second feature was a bit more of a slow moving caution filled affair, and featured a bad wreck involving the 8 of Lewis and 69 of Inglis, leaving a badly damaged Inglis' car (heard it needs a new front clip but not totally sure)..Basically what happened was Lewis got extremely loose and crooked outta 4, and as he tried to save it, he over corrected and caught Inglis' right rear and turned him into the wall.. Hard lick just before the flagstand outta 4, hardest hit I had personally seen in a while.. As mentioned first 30 was pretty decent, with only a single lap 17 caution when #54 Randy Bull and #55 Steve Quesnelle tangled in turn 1.. #2 "Hometown" Mike Brown took the early lead from pole, and continued to lead by a couple car lengths, with Quesnelle and #11 John Gaunt dueling for the runner up spot..Quesnelle would eventually take 2nd, with a inside pass of Gaunt racing out of corner 4, with Brown still looking cool out front running laps in the 14.9 range.. After the lap 17 caution, Quesnelle powered around Brown on the restart after a real tough battle for a few laps side by side. Just past midway, defending champ Inglis would pass Lewis for 3rd to the inside as the duo raced into turn 1.. Lewis, would then fall back into the clutches of #10 Gordie Shepherd, with Shepherd making an inside move down the backstretch on lap 20, to notch 4th in the running order.. At the checkered it was Quesnelle taking the win by a half straightaway over Brown.. Inglis would get a solid 3rd, with Shepherd and Lewis the remainder of the top 5.Second 30 was a bit of a mess to be honest, with the Lewis/Inglis wreck taking a fair bit of time to be cleaned up.. Early on it was #11 John Gaunt and the 54 of Bull battling door to door, with Bull even tagging the front stretch wall to bring about an early debris caution.. Oddly enough, Randy hit the wall at or just past the flagstand thus being deemed the leader of the race and given the preferred inside line.. Once again the battle was on for a few more laps up front between Bull and Gaunt, only this time Gaunt powered around on the outer groove, and from there opened up a marginal lead on Bull, as Shepherd cleared #55 Steve Quesnelle to take third place in behind..On lap 5, Shepherd then pulled off an inside pass of Bull between 3&4 to claim 2nd in the running order..Gaunt, was looking pretty solid out front with laps right at 15 flat, but Shepherd was closing quickly with each passing lap, while Quesnelle began working Bull over for 3rd approaching the midway point. On lap 15, Quesnelle made a inside move on Bull entering turn 3 and notched 3rd, when the caution would again appear a couple laps later, as Steve Quesnelle spun around in turn 3 on the nose of #2 Mike Brown.. On the restart, with Shepherd set to challenge Gaunt on the outside, the 10 would brush the wall along the backstretch, allowing Gaunt to move out to the point once again, when the caution again came about for #55 Steve Quesnelle who came to rest against the tire barrier in turn 2. Shepherd, would then pit from 2nd in the running order, as the crew began to look at the front end of the car . This time it was Ron Quesnelle who would find himself to Gaunt's outside for the restart, and the 57 was quick to take lead after a brief battle with the silky smooth Gaunt.. Quesnelle would open up about 2-3 car lengths on Gaunt over the closing laps, with Brown and Bull locked in a fierce battle for 3rd.. Give the win to Quesnelle, with Gaunt, Brown, Bull, and #8 Dave Lewis the top 5.The story of the night in Thunders, was the "invasion of the barnstormers" as Sunset Speedway's #66 Marty Monette and #49 "Flyin" Frank Davey graced the BSW faithful with their presence.. This was the best race of the night bar none, and especially amongst the top 4 drivers.. A couple of Barrie's hot shoes #55 Shawn Goggins and CRO's own #14 Thayne Hallyburton both were unable to finish in this one due to mechanical woes suffered around the midway point. The race would start off with Goggins moving out front from outside pole, after getting the jump on #34 Pete Marquardt.. Fast on the move in the early going, was the duo of #10 Rick Walt and Monette, as they would also shoot past Marquardt on the outside to take 2nd and 3rd respectively.. This is where the race would turn really interesting when Barrie Speedway's own #12 Jim "Polish Prince" Belesky would put on a charge outta nowhere to find himself running right behind the Monette/Walt battle. I had his laps very,very close to track record territory in this one..

Just curious as to what the lap record is, when it was set, and who has it?

This year its pretty obvious lol

Ben, as far as the track record goes my records show you still holding that honor... I'd have to actually dig up my notes from past years to check for exact dates and such.. But I believe the record you set was a lap in 16.711 sec.. And would of likely been set in Sept of 08 or 09 when the NCATS series traditionally hits town...For official track records I only count official time trialed events and not those of my own stopwatch.. I didnt look really deeply into the 02s lap times but I did have him on my watch running some laps at 16.750 .. As I mentioned to you the night you set the record , that a few years prior I had the 7 of Podewils running some 16.6s in the past but never in an official time trialed event.. I'll have to pull the records out as we get closer to Sept of this year to see if I indeed have the exact details right ..

The more and more I think about it I think it was the 09 season you established that record.. Dave Doucette holds the Thunder track record of a lap in 15.348 I think it was, and that was set in qualifying for the Triple 50s they had in 08.. The LLM track record is the longest standing of the 3, set by Keith McLeod in 2007 with a lap of 14.299...Again this is all of memory without my notes at hand but I think I have at least the times right, dates could be slightly off..

Well for remembering all that off the top of your head, you did pretty well haha. I thought I had run about a 16.69? on NCATS weekend. Not too far off of your records. I thought maybe Butler or someone had beat it since. My car is a long way off those numbers as it sits now.
