Gord got nailed for fuel cell to low back in thunder car back in 2004 I think it was, then they nailed a bunch of them.
Once you get to the level that Gord and Baker are at, YES, an INCH is a BIG difference!! Ill bet my last dollar that 1/2 a pound air in one tire could break one of those fine tuned machines! Its all the little things that ad up, not one big thing.
As for knowing about stuff being checked, its as simple as tech just decided to check cells that time, with no warning, and nothing said about it before hand.
By the time you get to late model and have won that much as they have, I doubt tech gives you much wiggle room. But having said that, I know for a fact Brad Richmond is pretty decent about things, so there would have had to been an OBVIOUS problem for them to be doinked.
Fair comments Charlie.
Dwayne's car is a 2012 Port City car and ours had a new rear clip this past Winter at the factory so they are almost bound to be the same as they had the rules. We were stood watching Dwayne melt down during his tech and I think it fair to say that we were sweating to see if ours was going to be the same, which it was of course :-[ It's an easy fix and we'll have it done by Saturday as I'm sure Dwayne's crew will with theirs.
There's no point getting worked up about it, it's a bummer but rules are rules and they apply to everyone, that's fine. In many ways it's better to have learnt this now instead of at the back end of the season when folk will say that both cars were running with an unfair advantage all year, be that advantage significant or otherwise.

In summary.
Truthsayer says.....Let us also not forget that the previous week there was the laborious Tech session for every car. This is when the tech team should have been making base chassis measurements of this type instead of arbitrarily deciding to do it later in the season unless there was some kind of unofficial complaint/tipoff/suggestion about one of the cars and the second car was collateral damage? Or perhaps a Port City Hater got lucky and took down

Those comments best summarize .It must be frustrating to have it go through tech last week ,,Think there is no problem with the car and then because it is running good ..BANG. Like I said does the DQ really say more about TECH than the competitor. But I still stand on the belief these cars did not fit into the rules from week 1. And have no problem accepting that it was unintentional based upon RRR comments.
I started this thread on the basis that the cars were running well from the start and it was that it was post race tech in race 2 that finds the problem, why not last week or race 1 ONLY TECH KNOWS THAT ANSWER.
Sct......
I think tech doesn't have the time to check every single piece on every car every week. Week 2 was time to check fuel cell heights. Nothing less nothing more is my 2 cents.
