Indeed, Pinecrest is very knowledgeable. The four cylinder 2.2 / 2.5 Chrysler engine can be made to fly. As can the Slant 6 (leaning tower of power) and the LA small block while more expensive than a comparable Chevy can make some serious HP too (and I'm not talking about W2 heads or anything exotic like that. Chrysler made very good cylinder heads and you just have to know where to look. Exhaust manifolds too.) I know a teeny bit about the fours, much more about Mopar V8's. If Chrysler made a 1/2 decent car in the 80's which could be raced in the Thunders I would have built Chrysler. The J-bar torsion bars were a mess, the straight bars are 1000% better. And Chrysler was (and still is) the source for racing type leaf spring rear suspension systems. The 8 3/4 is better (less HP driveline loss than the 9", there is less friction) and every Chrysler V8 engine block is the high nickel alloy that Chevy reserves for the severe duty or race blocks. Yep even 273's and 318's. Plus the ignition system they have been installing since 1972 on LA smallblocks is pretty close to what you would want on a race engine.

I wish I could have used my knowledge, but instead I have learned Chevyspeak.

My Slant recipe goes like this... I can say it because we don't race Slants. 198 crank and rods in a 225 block decked .100 with 2.2 Turbo pistons. 300 hp and 7 grand. Maybe a little less without a Clifford 4 BBL manifold. That's plenty from a leaner. I think you would agree, and most people wouldn't know what they were lookin' at. Creative Engineering.
