Well on those two I am in agreement THAYNE!!! Both Brad and Steve would make awesome race directors. Both former racers who have done alot for the Barrie track and gain instant respect from me for that very factor. Unfortunately, I dont think Brad has much interest in returning, and with Steve hes just simply too busy in the summer months with St. Onge Recreation. I will throw out another name/former racer though and this guy would be a very good candidate....... Steve Slaughter Sr.--- he made Sunset into the single best track in Ontario from the mid 80s until mid 90s. He's also very adept at bringing sponsors on board as well. Now there is a possibility his own son JUNIOR might be running Barrie next year but I assure you there would be no conflict of interest there. I can remember Junior being DQ'd, black flagged and everything else when Steve Sr. operated Sunset and Junior raced there. Mr.Slaughter would be a very good choice and is available, and I think would really welcome the job and do marvelous at it now that he wouldnt encounter the pressures of owning the track as well..... And while were on the topic of former Sunset owners if they ever chose to make "The Mental midget" Glenn Lloyd the race director that would be enough for me to never set foot on the hollowed ground that is BSW ever again!!!! Are you getting the feeling I like and respect the guy????????? NOT!!!!!!!LOL
I was on Face Book and saw an Outlaw Group called Dave Vokey For President, (or something like that). What about that guy??LOL
Well its mighty nice of you to even think along those lines DUSTY!!! I truly appreciate that. But that being said as I stated I really feel that a race director should be a former racer. Like lets face it unless you've been in a race car you truly dont have full comprehension of what goes on trackside. Anyone that knows me knows I have never driven so much as a shopping cart around BSW!!LOL And to be honest I'm quite content doing the write ups and other promotional things around the speedway, like welcoming new drivers and such. I feel this is really where my strength lies and not to toot my own horn or anything I think I'm quite good at just what I'm doing now!!! Now if say the new director needed an assistant/second opinion/2nd set of eyes if you will I'd be more than willing to entertain offers of that. I think I have alot of respect at the track now and could really be a calming influence on the drivers when an incident occurs. After all nobody is gonna slug a crippled!!!LOL And ya thats a real group of ruffians on facebook, that whole thing was intended as a joke and I really coundnt believe how much support it gathered!!LOL
I was working on the Brown's (Dwight and Pete's) cars in the eighty's, at Sunset. Jack Slaughter was the race director at that time. (I guess he knew somebody) He did a great job. As far as i know he never drove anything, but Deb crazy. And yes you are doing a great job at Barrie. With knowledge comes advancement.
Well thank you once again DUSTY!!! And I guess your right in part with knowledge comes advancement, I'm glad you think I could handle that position. And I vaguely remember Dwight's Dad Pete Brown when he raced what were essentially Super Lates in the day correct??? Your pretty lucky to have worked with class acts like that yourself. Dwight is truly a remarkable racer, that guy can drive anything sucessfully. Got to meet him a few times when he raced at Barrie in 04-06 when the Mods had off nights at Mosport. Both he and Rip are awesome to chat racing with in the pits. I make a point when I'm at KD a couple times a year just to go talk with Dwight and wish him well for his race season. Would be great to see Dwight at Barrie full time in 09. I would do spinning backflips off the tower if he decided to make the switch, that's how much I enjoy watching him wheel.
