Well first off in responce to your question LADY BUG, Frank was Barrie champ in 2001,2005,2006, and 2008. And add in the 2003 Sunset title he won and thats 5 track championships in 8 years. And in 2004 Frank lost out to Rob Poole by a single point as Sunset. If that one would of went in his favor thats 6 titles in 8 years. Are you getting the feeling the guy is good and consistant??LOL The drive for 5 begins next season for "Flyin Frank" and the mean black tank, so I'm glad to be saying I'll be able to watch him yet again at Barrie. The Wed inviationals went well I thought, car count was a touch smaller than I think the new owners anticipated, but it was some really good 4cyl racing when the Sunset cars and others visited Barrie. I really hope they continue with the invitational races, and really hoping they add a big $$ one for the LLM as well. Glad you felt welcome at Barrie MATT you are a great guy. I throughly enjoyed meeting yourself, Joe, Colt all the EPIC MOTORSPORTS guys, all class acts. And congrats to you USERNAME on the 2008 Sunset title, much deserved buddy. As far as Spencer at Barrie goes....... I could see that being a definite possibility as he was supposed to come help out with the Wed invitationals and the year end Thunder event this past season, it just didnt work out for whatever reason. I know he has all Dave Simpson's contact info, so wouldnt doubt that he might be in contact wih him this off season. I really think Spencer and Dave B together would make a great duo, kinda offset personalities, and Dave B is a busy guy a the track on Sat nights and could probably stand to have his workload lessened a little. I know for a fact he wouldnt have an issue with Spence joining us, in fact I really think he'd welcome the idea!!! Forget Ron MacLean and Don Cherry, this duo if put together would blow them outta the water. Lastly one other rumor I have heard is that there will only be one NCATS race at Barrie in 09 ( the Sept event) so it would be really nice if true that they might kick back some of the $$ they put out to have them there ( estimated to be in the 75000 to 100000 dollar range) to our own local racers. Like I say I would really like to see one big dollar race for the LLM, I think that idea would really fly in the area and produce some great racing. Ok so theres some more Friday morning musings!!! Agree or disagree???LOL

Well since no one seems to be talking/responding to some of my questions on this thread I figure I'd add some Sat morn musings for you all to read. I think Thayne really touched on an interesting point about Brain Thomas being let go. I had heard rumblings to this effect myself, and that if he was kept on as race director that there would be lots of teams leaving Barrie Speedway come 09. Now I'm not trying to slag Brian in the least, as I actually think hes a pretty good guy, but right from day 1 I stated (and this was before I had even met him) that from the sounds of it his specialties really lie more in the tech shed. To me a race director should be more of a liason between the fans/drivers/ and owners type of person and should have a vast knowledge of our local racers and the characteristics they may display on track from time to time. I cant really see the two names Thayne mentioned(Walters and Lynch) being in contention for this position though. In the case of Walters hes a diehard racer and cant see him giving that up anytime soon, as I personally feel Tommy has at least another 10 good years of racing left in him if he chooses to do so. As for Lynch I'm sure we all appreciate the great job hes done at KD but he too is a racer and more importantly in the NCATS series that travels away on alot of weekends, so I cant see him giving that up and he would of miss alot of Sat night racing due to the demanding NCATS schedule. I will throw a couple more names out there that I personally think would make awesome race directors and why I feel that way. Although a couple of these names are still current racers as well so as with Walters and Lynch there availability remains in question.

Garry "The Gambler" Reynolds------ Been racing at Barrie since 1973 and attending the track since 68, Garry has seen it all when it comes to the good and bad days of BSW. He know what works and what doesnt for sure, and I think while even comtemplating retirement before the 2008 season began, he indeed did apply for the race directors job. Now Garry had a real bounce back season in the results dept. so you could look at that two ways:: Might be a nice way to go out, or Garry still has a passion to race and one last crack at a title is definitely possible. Garry has some very interesting ideas hes shared with me in the past as it relates to race formats and such, and while my guess is he returns to the LLM division he would still head my list.

"Quick" Vic Parsons--------- Another who falls into the category of active racer, although a rumored retirement could be in the works. Barrie's first ever track champ has a great deal of respect at both Simcoe County tracks, and when you've finished in the top 10 at the Daytona 500 nobody can question your race knowledge. Vic has long been less than a fan of the Barrie track in recent years so that could provide a stumbling block, but he would be a good choice none the less.

Ronnie "Mustard" Mace------- Another long time Barrie racer thats well respected in the pits for his ability to bulid and set up a race car. Ron has been involved with the St.Onge team in recent years and I've been hearing Darryl wont be returning in 09, so that could open the door for Ron to take this position. Everyone knows theres a bit of a connection between the St.Onge bunch and the new ownership group so this one really makes alot of sense to me personally.

Derek Downey-------- Retired from racing a few years back and if theres a more respected racer in recent Barrie memory I sure dont know who it could be. Derek still visits the track from time to time and knows the ins and outs of the race game to a tee. I dont know how interested he might be in this, but as I said alot of teams have a great deal of respect for the clean mannor in which the 77 always raced and conducted himself, and hes very approachable and understanding on the personality front. Would be another stellar choice.

Mike" The Spike" Shaughnessy-------- The most dominate driver to ever set foot on the Barrie paper clip, Mike also visits the racetrack from time to time and anyone whos been around racing in Simcoe County for the last 20 some years knows the Shaughnessy name still commands alot of respect. Been out of the racing circles for a very long time so there would be no perceived "favortism" involved for any team, and he knows what to look for as it relates to on track incidents. I hear Mike might have health issues currently so that could hamper his availablity to take the position but would be another fine choice.

Well there's my 5!!! Any others??? And all this is a very moot point if in fact it was a rumor Brian was let go I realize that. I guess we will find out at the banquet if hes there or not, that will to me be a good indication if this particular "Rumor" has any merit to it.

Thank you clearing that up for me - was just curious upon that. And as far as going for his fifth at Barrie - well I can definately see that happening as he's quick every year, no matter what track he runs so hopefully he can pull it off 🙂
