Last night was my 1st time ever at Varney Speedway, and what a cool little track.. View from top tier of grandstands is killer, and the race fans are nuts!!! That track emplifies what grass roots racing should be..
Late Models---- as mentioned former USAR Hooters Pro Cup driver Jason Mclellan won and nobody seemed to have much for him.. his laps were in the 13.4 sec. range on my watch.. #12 Justin Mclellan finished 2nd after getting by former Barrie LLM driver #2 Mike Brown around 5 laps in. Brown was 3rd and had a good dice with last years Varney champ #96 Monte Kelly in the late stages. 2007 Varney champ #19 Brian Wilson rounded out the fast five.. Heats to Jason Mclellan and Kelly..
Super Streets ---- #27 Mark Fenton led the entire distance after getting the jump on #83 Scott Way from the green flag.. Way was 2nd for much of the race, until mechanical problems with 2 to go.. #61 Chad Eden kept his nose clean the entire race and finished 2nd, with #9 Dave Silverthorn 3rd after he started mid pack.. Some really sweet lookin cars in this division..
Street Stock----#93 Cole led from the outside of front row and didnt look back.. #99 Hunt and #6 Ritchie had a good battle for 2nd over the late going, with Ritchie just nipping him at the finish..
Mini's ---- best race of the night bar none.... Crumbie and Burrows battled lap after lap for the lead while they worked lapped traffic.. Outta the last corner Burrows goes to the inside of Crumbie out of 4, but Brandon held on by inches at the end..Cremasco ran a solid 3rd right on the bumpers of the lead duo.. The 2nd Burrows car was 4th, and CRO's own CHARGER #90 Jim McDonald was 5th after having a 3rd and heat win.. Way to go Jimbo!!!! Those train races were nuts!!!
;D Thanks for the props there dave, i really enjoy varney as a driver and a fan. it was a real nice way to start the season after barrie got cancelled. plus a win away from my home track was incredible. have to thank all the drivers at varney though they make some of us visiting drivers feel like we have a second home there. and man thoose hillbillies are sure fun to hang with 😮
