V8 Supercars head to the Mountain

The V8 Supercars Championship heads to Mount Panorama this weekend for one of Australia’s biggest sporting events, the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000.

It will be the 55th running of the `Great Race’ and one of most keenly anticipated Bathurst 1000 events for many years.

Highlights include:
Prodrive Racing Australia aiming for its third straight Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 with defending winner Chas Mostert and Mark Winterbottom vying for the 2015 championship
Drivers expected to hit speeds of 300 km/h for the first time in the history of the race
The entry of the first all-female team in nearly two decades, the Harvey Norman Supergirls pairing of Swiss Indycar driver Simona de Silvestro and Australian Renee Gracie.
The History of Motorsport display featuring some of the most iconic cars and motorbikes across each era of the race’s history
The traditional Transporter Parade through Bathurst city on Wednesday, followed by the Drivers’ Autograph session in King’s Park
V8 Supercars CEO James Warburton said up to 200,000 fans were expected to make the annual pilgrimage to Bathurst to see who would take out the Peter Brock Trophy and be crowned `King of the Mountain’.

“This is one of the world’s iconic motor races alongside Le Mans, Monaco and the Indianapolis 500 and in this the bicentenary of the city of Bathurst will be an event not to be missed,” he said.

The on-track action starts on Thursday and will culminate with the race on Sunday. Kids aged 12 and under will receive free trackside admission with a paying adult. Tickets are available from www.ticketek.com.au.

For those not at the track, the action will be broadcast live on Fox Sports and the Ten Network.

V8 Supercars will issue daily media alerts and releases as well as VNRs and audio grabs for electronic media from Wednesday to Sunday.

A live cross facility will be available for TV non-rights holders. Any media wishing to use the facility or seeking accreditation for the event are asked to contact Ben Nightingale on bn@v8supercars.com.au or 0401 454 179.
