This year’s Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 is shaping as the most attended race in its history, more so than the emotional year that marked the passing of the great Peter Brock.
The 50th year of the iconic, world famous race has been inundated with ticket buyers and campsites sold out in just 33 minutes. Early signs indicate the crowd of 192,647 of 2006 may be under threat.
Given the overwhelming increase in demand, V8 Supercars have announced an additional 1000 grandstand seats are now available, having sold all of the existing seats.
The additional 1000 seats have been added in three locations - 200 on Murrays Corner along with two brand new grand stands; The Museum and The Chase.
All seating features the majestic Mount Panorama backdrop and plenty of vision of the track.
V8 Supercars CEO David Malone said it’s humbling to see so many people supporting the race and its anniversary as one of the biggest events on the Australian sporting landscape.
“The reaction has been extraordinary,” Mr Malone said. “The huge demand has meant we will add new stands which is a nice position for the event to be in.”
With 2012 making history, patrons are encouraged to take part in the on and off track entertainment.
Mr Malone said numerous tributes to mark the 50th running of the iconic sporting event would be held across the weekend.
“The history of this race is steeped in tradition and some of the greatest moments in sport,” Mr Malone said.
“The feats that have been achieved on Mount Panorama over half a century are racing folklore and we will mark the most significant of those achievements in the coming months.”
Fans can take part in 50 years of awesome moments at Mount Panorama with the Legends Parade Lap on Saturday and Sunday, Awesome Bathurst moments display, RAAF Roulettes display, track entertainment sessions and experience world class racing by the V8 Supercars and supports series Dunlop Series, Porsche Carrera Cup, V8 Utes Series, Touring Car Masters and Formula Ford.
