Australian V8 Supercar drivers will barrack for the future stars of motorsport engineering at the F1 Schools World Finals today.

David Reynolds, Steven Johnson, Taz Douglas and Tony D'Alberto made the trip to Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi ahead of their races at the ETIHAD AIRWAYS Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, November 2 - 4.

Cheering on Australian national champions, Cold Fusion from Brighton Secondary School in Adelaide, Team Spectra from Trinity Grammar School in Kew and Kyabram Secondary School in Kyabram and the Australian/German collaboration team Rapid Motion, the drivers will be at the mini-trackside for the final knockout racing rounds.

The Bottle-O Racing Team's David Reynolds said it was encouraging to see the next generation learning critical motorsport techniques.

"It's pretty cool to see all these kids make the trip to represent Australia in the F1 in Schools World Finals. It's an awesome way for them to learn about motorsport," said Reynolds.

"This is a great experience for all the teams...they learn all the areas of racing, not only on about the race days but sponsorship, engineering and other areas."

Team owner/driver Tony D'Alberto from Team HiFlex said the F1 in Schools teams learn crucial managing skills that can't be taught in school.

"From a management perspective these teams are gaining hands on experience. Learning how to operate a team isn't a textbook job and these students are in the best place to learn how a motorsport team actually works," said D'Alberto.

The F1 in Schools program is the largest and most successful educational initiative in the world and since its beginning in 1999, the program has extended to include 40 countries from around the world which has seen 20 million students compete in the challenge.

In 2006 Australia took out the World Title and this year's three Australian teams are all in contention to win the Bernie Ecclestone World Championship Trophy once again.

Teams are judged out of a possible 900 points for their portfolio and display, engineering and use of CAD/CAM, racing and oral presentation.

Teams will race their balsa wood designed mini F1 race cars along a 20 metre straight, powered by a carbon dioxide canister, with most teams completing the sprint in just over a second.

More high speed racing is set to play out on YAS MARINA circuit this weekend with V8 Supercars competing in three 65 kilometre sprint races.
