it does cost alot of money and clearly the bottom line will be damage control with the losses.
the thing is, the week before it was called at noon. so it saves some people driving but really there was a way to get the show in on that day. it was hot and beautiful out with no rain after 1145am or so. i'm sure there would have been a crowd on the 26 of july. but one way or another we don't pay the bills.
racing at sunset speedway will only ever be as important as the owner makes it.
the racing is amazing now and i think the drivers all respect one another but race really hard.
but it will only become a big deal when it's treated as one.when there is no effort to pump the pit 6 hours prior to racing on a sunny day, racing doesn't seem important. same if the grass isn't cut, weeds and unpainted stuff, scoring is wrong, website is incomplete and not updated, points aren't posted, no new advertising, if it's not important enough to have those things, it just isn't important. add to the list paying attention to our past. celebrate the old drivers and keep a record of your past champions on the website, find news from the teams....
poor spencer is carrying the load of making our races a big deal, and the drivers and teams as well. in the announcing department we are #1...that's it
all the above things make the races important, a bigger deal
I AGREE 100 %. the key word is Effort and the drivers, crews, fans and many staff and sponsors are willing to make an effort, but if the owners are not willing to make an effort were is it going to go.
The frustrating part was driving home with clear blue skies at 6:00 on Sat night. People will show up at the track at 7 if its not raining out, and that was the case on Sat.
really who cares about a little water anyways we all go to fall colours at peterborogh speedway and all the fans show up too in the rain, snow and sun so wtf! it's only water!!
if wes is worried about no fans spend the money and cover some of the grandstand that only makes sence ???
That is true...Fall Colours has one of the best turn outs for a race season ever. I understand that it is a tradition and people go plan it for months, but still the fans do show up and look at last year rained for the whole weekend and fans still showed up daily to sit there hopeing they wouldn't have to call it.
The fans enjoy the racing as much as the drivers do, and like the drivers they want to see some racing!!
And I agree Wes should cover part of the stands to that reason, fans woulld probably enjoy that even on a sunny day 🙂
The rain we have been getting has been breaking records for the most rain ever. This really hurts a lot of track owners.
Not sure how smaller tracks do rain dates as it is not like the bigger series where they keep trying till they get the race in.
Couldn't they do it in the Sunday or a weekday evening race?
But then the problem is the teams expense. Are fans going to want to drive out again with the GAS prices so high.
It is almost a no win situtation.
I remember when I went to sunset many many years ago. It rained and the fans waited till it stopped the cars drove around to try and keep the track dry and they went racing and it rained again and then they finally called it but we got to see some racing. Yes we were a bit mad as we only saw half a show but it was a good show and better then nothing.
