is there anyone on this board that can share the total results of the Sunday show? and maybe even a recap of the feature races?
i wasn't able to go and haven't been able to find a rundown anywhere besides the top 3 in each class.
thanks
Wrong post
I was able to go but would still like to see the results, as I'm not familiar with some of the drivers. Seems like the track has disrespected there fans as well as MRE.
Here is what I wrote up following the event for my website, NewsFromThePits.com...................
Heat Winner Recap: http://newsfromthepits.com/slideshows/may-27th-m-r-e-pro-series-round-1-heat-winners
DOUG BUTLER WINS M.R.E. PRO SERIES MINI STOCK FEATURE
Last year, Doug Butler put on a show in the McColl Racing Enterprises Shootout Series as he won the championship, backing up his 2010 Sunset Speedway Mini Stock Championship. After Sunday, he looks to do the same as he looked strong in round one competition.
Peterborough Speedway driver Doug Butler took the victory in the first heat with Sauble Speedway driver Gary Jones finished second.
Peterborough Speedway driver Alex Lees would take the win in the second heat. Fellow Peterborough driver Daryl Fice finished second with Flamboro Speedway competitor Brandon McFerran third.
Sunset Speedway competitor Warren Paxton won the third and final Mini Stock of round one qualifying. Peterborough Speedway driver Lance Foster finished second, followed by Sauble's John Vandyke.
Jones would win the first heat of the second round of qualifying. Butler finished second followed by Sunset's Eric Yorke.
Fice won the fifth Mini Stock heat. Flamboro's Billy Schwartzenburg finished second followed by Lees.
Peterborough Speedway competitor Neil Hannah won the sixth and final Mini Stock heat. Paxton finished second, followed by Foster.
In the feature with fast cars to the front and the invert, Doug Butler won start the race on pole. He would pull out to the early lead and extend it out almost straightaway in length, lapping cars each lap.
“They’re actually really good here,” Butler says of the lap cars. “They’re the best around, they keep out of your way and you just keep on going.”
The first caution came out on lap 19 of the 35 lap feature when Warren Paxton had motor problems, after trying to go for the weekend sweep after winning on Saturday night. At this point, Daryl Fice ran second followed by Eric Yorke, Gary Jones and Alex Lees.
Butler would lead the final 20 laps no problem as he went on to take the victory.
“I want to thank my uncle Brian; he’s help me every step of the way,” Butler says. “I want to thank my parents for supporting for me, all my sponsors, my girlfriend over there. I also want to thank Peterborough Speedway for taking me in.”
This marks his first feature victory since winning the final race at Sunset last year – the Velocity 250.
“Basically, I couldn’t ask for anymore; the car was working,” Butler says. “I didn’t touch it much from last year. Just basically changed a couple tires and a couple air pressures and was good to go.”
Butler adds that he will be returning for future McColl Pro Series races, along with possibly some races before the next event in June.
Daryl Fice would finish second in a car that he’s trying to sell as he’d like to get a thunder car built to run the rest of this season.
“I’d like to thank my dad, Don Butt Autobody, Automotive Technical Solutions, Durham Auto Works, Monarch Limosine, Melody Holmes and darylficeracing.com,” the driver of the No. 44x says.
He adds that he is planning on running Kawartha’s full schedule, with running Peterborough some nights.
Sauble Speedway competitor Gary Jones would finish third after winning a race at Sunset Speedway earlier this season.
“This is a lot of fun to run with this group with this many cars,” he says, adding that he plans to be back for future M.R.E Pro Series events.
Neil Hannah and Alex Lees rounded out the top five. The 86 from Flamboro finished sixth, followed by Eric Yorke, Brandon McFerran, Lance Foster and Samantha Shaw. Branden Bullen finished 11th followed by Brent Wheller, 50x (Sauble). That's all I got written down.
RANDY RUSNELL WINS M.R.E PRO SERIES SUPER STOCK FEATURE AT SUNSET SPEEDWAY
In 2010, Kyle Donaldson drove his No. 53 Monte Carlo to feature victory lane for a total of 13 wins. So when Randy Rusnell bought the car at the end of the 2011 season, everybody had him as the early season favourite for this season. In the first four nights of racing, Rusnell had yet to find feature victory lane as he battled handling problems. However, in the first round of the McColl Pro Series on Sunday, that all changed.
2011 McColl Shootout Series and Sunset Speedway Super Stock Champion Lane Zardo won the first Super Stock heat of the night. Sunset's Randy Rusnell finished second, followed by Flamboro's Nick Troback
Sunset's Nick Roth took the victory in the second heat and final heat of first round qualifying for the Super Stocks. Flamboro's Dennis Cybalski got second, followed by Sauble's Joe Adams.
Flamboro Speedway's Kevin Albers took the victory in the third Super Stock heat. Sunset's Steve Cashmore and Rusnell.
Sunset's Herb Walters took the victory in the final Super Stock heat. Roth finished second followed by Sauble's Matt MulHolland.
With the line-up being set based on heat finishes and a dice invert, Sunset’s Herb Walters started pole, followed by Sunset’s Lane Zardo, Flamboro’s Kevin Albers and Sunset’s Randy Rusnell. Walters wouldn’t be in the first long as Zardo would take the lead on the second lap.
Sunset’s Paul Geniole Jr. was looking for a solid run, though had to pit at the halfway mark on lap 25 due to the flat tire after racing side-by-side with Matt Bentley. At this point, Zardo led Rusnell and Roth. Rusnell was able to chase Zardo down and after following him for some laps, he made the pass for the lead with 10 laps to go.
The race would run caution free till a caution with seven to go when Richard Butler spins.
Another caution would come out with five to go when Zardo ran into issues while running second, mixing up the runner order as now Rusnell led over Roth, Sauble’s Matt MulHolland, Walters and Bentley.
The final restarts set-up a battle for the win between Rusnell, Roth and Mullholland.
“They crowd you down when you’re on the inside,” Rusnell comments with regards to the pair of restarts. “Both of them run you very clean, but the key is, you get a head start and once you get the head-start coming off of four, you’re good going to into one so that was our plan those final two restarts.”
Rusnell would lead the final five laps for his first win of 2012 behind the wheel of his new car.
“I gotta thank my wife Joanne, my crew – everybody that comes out and helps support us with this car,” Rusnell says. “We struggled the first few weeks.”
Rusnell admits that after purchasing the car in the off-season, it got him pumped up immediately as he thought he’d have the same success right away.
“Turns out, it didn’t quite go that way,” he comments. “But I gotta tip my hat off to Ken Donaldson and all the Donaldson family ‘cause they worked feverishly on this car. They did a lot of work to it in the last couple of weeks. Don’t ask me what they did, but they fixed it. we gotta get it a couple more tenths faster.”
Roth would finish second, followed by MulHolland, Walters and Bentley. 12-year-old Cayden Lapcevich finished sixth followed by Joe Adams, Nick Troback, Dennis Cybalski and Steve Cashmore.
For the opening round of the M.R.E Pro Series, the list of Super Stock drivers was incredible as they’ve each won throughout their careers.
“You got a tremendous field of racecar drivers here that on any given night can win,” Rusnell comments. “I’m going to hope to spoil all their winning for the next couple of weeks.”
TOM WALTERS WINS M.R.E PRO SERIES OPEN LATE MODEL FEATURE AT SUNSET SPEEDWAY
Until Sunday night, Tom Walters had yet to find victory lane. For a 28-time champion, it may seem surprising, but new car bugs will do that. However, Walters and Stompin’ Tom Motorsports got the bugs worked out as Sunday night marked a successful one.
OSCAAR Competitor Brandon Watson won the first heat for the Open Late Models. Sunset's Mike Bentley and Gary Elliott finished second and third.
Flamboro Speedway's Brad Corcoran won the second heat of the event. Barrie Speedway's Gord Shepherd finished second, followed by Kawartha's Ryan Kimball.
Delaware Speedway's Jamie Cox would take the last heat win in the first round of qualifying. Kawartha's Dan McHattie finished second followed by Barrie's Dwayne Baker.
Sunset's Bentley would go on to take the win over Watson and Sunset's Sean Grosman.
NASCAR Canadian Tire Series competitor Jason Hathaway won the fifth heat, followed by Delaware's Matt Pritiko and Sunset's Tom Walters.
The final heat of the evening went to Flamboro's Steve Laking. OSCAAR competitor Jesse Kennedy finished second, followed by Mat Box.
In the feature virtue of the fast cars to the front with the dice invert format, Delaware Speedway’s Jamie Cox would start pole with Sunset Speedway’s Tom Walters second and Barrie Speedway’s Dwayne Baker third. Cox would lead the opening 10 laps before Walters would make the pass on lap 11. Cox would not get a good finish as he would run into problems on lap 22.
On the same lap, the first caution would come out for Mike Bentley going for the spin. At this point, it was Walters over Delaware’s Matt Pritiko, Flamboro’s Brad Corcoran, OSCAAR competitor Jesse Kennedy and Kawartha’s Ryan Kimball.
On the restart, Grosman would go for a spin in turn one to bring the caution back out. This wouldn’t be Grosman’s only spin as he’d bring out the caution on lap 23 due to another spin due to brake issues.
By this point, Kennedy had made his way up to second behind Walters over Corcoran, NASCAR Canadian Tire Series competitor Jason Hathaway and Matt Pritiko.
On lap 28, the fourth caution would come for Davey going for a spin. Walters still ran first with Kennedy second, though Hathaway had made his way up to third ahead of Corcoran and Pritiko.
On lap 37, the fifth caution would come out for Jaxson Jacobs spinning.
It would be followed by the sixth caution on lap 42 for Kennedy wrecking Hathaway while battling for second. Meanwhile, Gord Shepherd also ran into some problems. With everything that happened, now Walters led over Corcoran, Pritiko and OSCAAR competitor Brandon Watson. Bentley had made his way up to fifth after his spin on lap 22.
The seventh caution would come out on lap 49 for Jason Parker having issues while Watson had passed Pritiko for third.
The eighth caution came out on lap 56 for Baker, Sunset’s Taylor Holdaway and Sunset’s Billy Zardo wrecking. The wreck started when Baker got loose off of turn two and spun, leaving both Holdaway and Zardo no place to go. Watson had now worked his way up to second behind Walters, followed by Bentley, Corcoran and Flamboro’s Steve Laking.
The ninth caution would come out on lap 58 when Watson had a flat tire after racing side-by-side for second with Bentley. So now it was Walters over Bentley, Corcoran, Laking and Kimball.
The battle for fifth would go all wrong on lap 60 when Kimball, Pritiko and Kawartha’s Bryan Mercer would wreck in turn two. This would allow Kennedy to crack the top five while Laking passed Corcoran for third.
The 11th caution would come out on with four laps to go on lap 71 when Bruce Wheeler hit the wall while Corcoran got back by Laking for third and Delaware’s David Elliott had now cracked the top five, all behind Walters and Bentley.
The first restart would be called off due to Bentley jumping, with the next one being clean and green. It wouldn’t be the last as the 12th caution came out on lap 72 for Kimball having problems while Kennedy passed Elliott for fifth.
The race would go beyond its distance with a green-white-checkered after the No. 0 spun.
On the first green-white-checkered would result in the 14th caution as Watson got spun by Mercer on the restart.
The second green-white-checkered went perfect as Walters was able to hold Bentley off to score his first win of 2012. Laking finished third, followed by Corcoran and Kennedy. Elliott finished sixth, followed by Pritiko, Zardo, Kawartha’s Dan McHattie and Sauble’s Jason Parker.
