I just thought I would start this thread thinking that somehow anything posted here may make it's way back to the new owners. Feel free to post things you would like to see changed about the track. I know there is probably a lot but try to stay clear of bashing please.
PRE RACE QUALIFYING
Get rid of that. I hate it so much. I know the reason behind it but I am not convinced it works or is worth it. Nothing feels worse than spending all that time getting race ready for the weekend and seeing the stands empty or the feeling that 4 cylinders and four fun cars are being hidden by racing them before people even get there. They don't even announce clearly the real start time of 45 minutes early (look at banner on website or sign on highway in front of track).
I had my sister come up from the city to see me race once with wee ones in tow. The website said 7:00 but when she got there was surprised to find she missed my race already. She seen my 2nd heat but left at intermission as some do with small kids or getting too cold and not a die hard race fan.
SNACK BAR
Keep the condiment tables clean. Somebody should be in charge and have that as a job to check them and if not clean do it or drag somebody out to do it. I see 4 or 5 kids behind snack counter standing around when not busy but nobody will go out to clean unless told to. Use a checklist like MacDonald's does.
RESPECT FOR 4 CYLINDERS
I am a big fan of racing and love to watch the thunder cars and late models but feel the 4 cylinders get left out a lot. I have been working on my car to get ready for the feature and just after spectator races went over for air or gas and shut down. We also race prior to the track even opening (already mentioned). We were moved to the end of the night so people can watch thunders and late models then leave early not having to be put out by waiting through the putt putt's. The truth is the 4 cylinders bring in more money for the track. On average we bring a crew of visitors from girlfriend/boyfriends to mom/dad/sister and cousins.
That's it for now... feel free to add your own or comment.
It would be nice if they could speed up entrance into the pits, it took half an hour last weekend to sign in. Maybe they should open earlier.
I do like the early start time at the beginning of the season.
I don't visit sunset often, but I do recall a few times showing up say round 6:40 or something...and seeing heats already had begun.... I understand on nights where there is a lot to go threw...and they don't want to make it to late for everyone......so I'm assuming that's what you mean by "pre-race quilfying"? if so then I agree.
I also agree with the 4cly deal, I'm a race fan...and will stay and watch everyclass there is running....but I do like to see LM run at the end....just beacuse of what you said, I feel bad for the 4cly guys/gals when there going out last at a track...and the stands are empty, again if it's a really long night....I can understand the tracks managment making the decision to move LM's/TC ect. up...to make the fans "happy"
Trim and cut every piece of grass in the place...yes that means where the billboards are where we line up to go to the track. Paint every piece of rusted metal and get rid of old sh*t boxes laying around.
Put a big drum somewhere for used oil and build a pen for used tires...if there are any tires without rims left in the pit that aren't being used to tarp cars...throw them in the pen...empty the bin every two weeks if it can't be that big.
pay 2 people to be at the pitgate at noon and upen up and wristband the people trickling in early so there is not a massive lineup for those who get there when the pit gate opens. good idea peanut butter!
PAVE THE AREA AROUND THE GRANDSTANDS!!! There are too many little rugrats throwing dirt and playing in the dirt and it's basically a dirt fest. Build a big blow up pen for kids and throw 'em all in there with foam bats and helmets and platic balls and tell them to go nuts...ok just pave around the grandstands.
don't attach a sh*tter to the kitchen in the pits....theres nothing better than smelling a steamy dump while waiting for your slice.
ok big money stuff would be to take all hills out of the pits and put in retaining walls to make more room
build a permanent shack for tech and tires.
paint sunsetspeedway.ca in big black bold letters and make it half the straightaway long so that if there is video or pictures on the internet it will show up as free advertising...then update the site 3 times a week, post schedules and standings on sunday, photos monday or tuesday and bring back the stats

I think all the tracks need to do that, not just Sunset.
