Sunset Speedway Lives Up To All Its Hype

I too am a Sunset attendee over several decades now, although not a "loyalist", and the new facility is one fast track! The fastest LM's were turning 14.8's to 15.2's, SS around 16 and MS high 16's/low 17's! (by my clock) Look for OSCAAR's fast guys to rip off some 14 flats or better next week!
Mark, Steve, Linda and all the many others involved in rebuilding Sunset have done an amazing job. Once everyone gets past the gremlins and gets a solid feel for the new track the side by side racing WILL be second to none. Three wide appears easier than ever (but the MS'ers probably shouldn't try 5 wide too many times again 😮 ) but there's plenty of potential for carnage too as we also saw a little. Nothing too major, but some well chewed race equipment. Only one christening of the new wall in a forceful manner, that being CRO's own charlie7 in his first heat. Spencer pointed out to the crowd that Charlie was the winner of the last ever TC feature at the old Sunset track so to have this happen so early in his first race on the new track...ouch. It is sometimes hard to watch nicely prepared cars sometimes getting torn up first night out, but that's racin'!
I don't doubt that car counts will increase over the next couple of weeks. The drivers list is long and even if only half show up it should mean counts as good as tonight. As for the stands, far from full throughout but strong numbers for a rather cool mid-May evening. Things are only headed onwards and upwards at Sunset and with this group running the show it's for sure!

The superstock feild looks to be one of the best in recent memory. Jason Elliot and the duece Dave Duecette are going to give Kyle Donaldson,Frank Davies and Mark Adams all they can handle.Really deep feilds in all classes.

And best of all, they are on as level a playing field as it gets in racing, a brand new race track that they are all learning at the same time.

Killed the car in the second turn wall, heat 1.  Maybe the car in front of me pooring gas all over the track had someting to do with it, not to sure?  Im sure he should have got the black not the checkard for it!!  Oh well noting Merv cant fix im sure.  But what a difference a winter makes, won the last race, last the next.
