No one has suggested anyone is cheating, only that most teams would like to see a fair playing field. I think that's simple enough.

I must be reading a different discussion; ALMOST EVERYONE here has suggested or insinuated that Walters was cheating.
As for a FAIR playing field for all is concerned, isn’t that what you have now? Same rules applying to everyone?
Ignoring the glaringly obvious (that the best driver won) what has been suggested is that the rules be changed regarding the crate motors (another insinuation of cheating), bump stops etc etc.
I can’t be sure since I can’t find any records but I would be willing to wager a considerably large sum of money that the rules have changed during Walters’s career dozens of times and most likely (in my experience at least) annually and decades later he is still winning.
What would make anyone think that yet another change will change that?
Remember my original argument? Mario Andretti won in Midgets and Sprintcars, in Sports cars, Nascar, Indy cars and Formula1, on dirt tracks, open road circuits and oval tracks in a variety of cars for a variety of teams under a variety of rules.
Walters has been winning for decades under a variety of rules and another change is not going to change that. The height of stupidity is to keep trying the same experiment hoping for a different result.
Now the latest suggestion from Gary36 (who admits he has shortcomings and suggests that the rules be changed to disadvantage those who have overcome their shortcomings) is that a penalty be applied to winning cars
How is that fair to Bentley or Walters etc?
Personally I associate FAIR with Cotton Candy, Carnival rides and the awarding of blue ribbons to prize winning hogs, not with competitions of any kind.
The suggestion is illogical, irrational and just plain biased from a vested interest that is eager to become a legend in his own lunchtime by slowing down the opposition.
As for the fans/spectators, they don’t want to see good driver’s penalized and not able to display their full potential; we want to see good drivers doing what they do best and if that means they lap the field so be it.
The reason why Walters won (wins) is obvious, you want to beat him? Drive better.

Funny thing I have noted that Flamboro Speedway in their results section of the their W page include penalties of the night. You can only assume the page you are reading has transparity and is official.

They want to see the same driver win each night? A driver win by a lap? Dwindling fields of cars from guys saying "fuck it"?

Who wins is of no interest to a true enthusiast, how much or little they win by is not important either, seeing the best driver(s) win by any margin is paramount..
The question for fans/spectators is this. Would they prefer to see the top end drivers quit because they cant win due to penalties being applied against them for being skillful or is it better to see a few also rans quit due to their skill shortcomings in a sport they had no flare for.
Do they want to see a reduced field of cars going around at 17 sec laps or the same reduced numbers of cars going around at 14+ sec laps?
I can tell you which I would rather watch.
As for the premises of my argument that racing does not have to be fair, my thoughts are not inclined towards the “is it fair question”, more to the “is it legal question”
Unless you are suggesting that some cars (47 for example) are scrutinized less often or with less vigor the others, then all is at it should be. The same rules being applied to everyone equally, what’s wrong with that?

No question in my mind that Topper would get excited watching Tom win a one car race.

Funny story that pre-dates this incident.

Walters put a beating on the LLM field at the Chase for the Colours, a few weeks back.

During one of his dominate runs, one of the announcers started to comment on how Tom had a big engine that was working great for him, as that is what it did look like. Spenser was quick to jump in and cut the other guy off, almost desperately explaining that Walters runs a crate 602..

Read into that what you will.. But at very least that 1st announcer said what many fans were thinking..

i was at that race maybe we watched a different race. i watched the 35 hound tom the last id say 15 laps or so. tom did not walk away with that race. Nothing againt the annoucer but he didnt know what he was talking about and thats why spencer cut in and corrected him.
