Kevin I meant the Tom, Kyle, Doug thing as a broad statement.  Meaning there are only a select few in each class that really have a shot at the top prize.  Maybe 2 or 3 at best in each class, not JUST them.

Ya I seen the pay format thingy on the other page, I was wondering about the overall pay format 1-24 type.  End of each night type stuff.

With Kyle most likely running Kawartha next year, that should pretty much open it up for anyone to have a shot at the superstock title. With the number of new llm's being built and others rumored to be coming to race next year,it looks to be tooth and nail for these guys also. 4 cyls also had quite a few guys step forward near the end of the season,Doug will definitely have his hands full too. So needless to say i think its wide open for anybody and everybody this coming race season. As far as the purse and payouts ,i'll guess we'll all be finding out sometime in december.

Let me first say that I am posting this as a personal comment and NOT an official comment from Varney Motor Speedway.

This $50, 000 Shootout thing is pretty exciting news. There have been several posts above expressing many issues that are indicative as to how this "bonus money" may affect racing in Ontario.

I would like to know how this is helping "racing in Ontario" in general. Sure, it helps Sunset Speedway but, trying to lure cars from other tracks does not help the big picture. I know, I know...free enterprise blah blah blah but, only two years ago, some 'Speedway Association' was formed to try and better the sport as a whole in this province and what came of that....nothing.

I can't fault Sunset for this move. If they can afford it and can come up with the sponsorship for it, then go nuts.

I just wish promoters, racers, track ownerships and everyone else involved with this terrific sport in the province of Ontario would stop talking out of both sides of their mouths, work together on schedules and rules, and finally come together to come up with some kind of progressive dialogue that will lead to a better racing environment for "all" tracks.

This certainly is not sour grapes as Varney Speedway has no problems attracting fans and, while our car counts have been down the last couple of seasons (and who's haven't), we still have competitive racing on the track and very satisfied visitors on Invitational nights. So please, don't mistake this post as "Varney Speedway whining".

This thread seemed as good as any to make a "let's get together" kind of post in the hopes that all tracks can be successful. Afterall, due to our fine Canadian weather, we only get so many weeks to squeeze a race season in. Surely there must be a way to have an impact on racing without everyone trying to pile it on the same two nights each week. I can guarantee you that these special nights at Sunset will be on every Sunday of every long weekend during the season. And if you have to run Sunset all season long to be eligible for the Shootout money....that leaves a lot of tracks holding their arms up and shaking their heads.

Great news for Sunset Speedway and those who intend on running there this season. Not so great news for tracks like Varney and Barrie who are already struggling with car counts. Not so great news for tracks like Sauble and Flamboro who have the cars but not the fans and stand to lose a bit of both.

I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens when the green drops in 2011.

I think the times of having multiple tracks in Ontario is soon coming to an end....... there isn't enough racers and money out there to support it ....I know some will say thats a shame and sad news but I perfer to look at it from the point of view that it will make for a great show on a weekly basis at which ever speedway prevails.....racing in southern Ontario will never die it just might be done all in one or 2 places. IMO
