We weren't sure we would get this race in, due to rain. And it didn't appear the track was hurrying to get the features in....
Most of the fast cars we're starting at the back, so that defiantly made for some interesting racing.
Just a couple things to point out - Ken Britt? what happened to him tonight, was something wrong with the car? Fast in his heats, finishing 1st and 5th. Not sure on his finish in the feature but it was back there.
Also when the starter shows you the move over sign - that means move over for the race leaders, and those still on the lead lap. Don't block the guy running 2nd, 3rd, or 4th. There is nothing more frustrating for a driver and from a fan's point of view, as a good race between the top cars, and lapped cars continue to race and get in the way of the leaders. I understand that sometimes there is no where to go. But I'm not sure if many of you are aware there is a rule "no passing under the yellow line" Dave wasn't aware of this the second night out and was docked 2 positions. So the racing lanes are limited so let's listen to the starter ladies and gents..
It was a great feature race despite that one thing, I'm not 100% on where the 8 car started, but Dave Burrows who started in the 16th starting position, ended up the race in 2nd spot, followed by #78, #48 and #5. In the end he ran out of time. Maybe next week??
We we're called into tech lane, as I believe it was top 3 cars in tech tonight. Where there was a lot of spectators and other crews hanging around to see what they were checking on Burrows car - last time I checked and was involved with a car in tech lane - it was PIT CREW TO THAT CAR ONLY, allowed in the tech area.
I will admit, Fred, and the 4 cyl tech guy (sorry haven't caught his name..) we're very good once this was brought to there attention.
But to let those of you wondering - Dave was found to be legal on everything... weight & motor. So to you "future race car driver" why not come on over to our pits, we would be happy to give you any advice you'd need or like Dave said sign any autographs for his "fan club" that we're hanging around after the feature. We have really nice photo's done up.. if you'd like one!!!! LMAO
is dave going to get that mod out this year ???
Well.. here's the thing......
He spent all day yesterday getting the mod ready, motor and tranny are going in this week, and next Sunday he hopes to get most of the body on. Some things have happened and now Chris (Dave's Uncle..) has 3 modifieds, and then Dave's working on racing his Grandfather's mod.
With the baby due in 17 weeks. We're really up in the air and taking it each week. Dave thinks as do I, that he has a good shot at another championship at Sunset, depending on where Britt finished in the feature if it was 9th or back, Dave would then be in the points lead. (Yes, it's early on.... but you can never start thinking championship too early!!!) And right now it's cheap to run the Mini..
Wes offered me a job to run the pit concession stand, I haven't agreed, but for what he will pay - it's defiantly worth my time. SO if I accept the job at Sunset, then Dave will run there full time, and race the mod on a couple Sunday specials at Varney. And then next year race the mod on a more full time basis. We're hoping to have the Mod at Peterborough Autumn Colours this year, but I'm due October 1st. SOOOO... we'll see how that works out!
Chris is hoping to have one of his mod's completed for this weekend, and then is going to talk to Wes about practicing it at Sunset this weekend. So when I find out more, or we decide more then I'll fill you in.
ken finished right in front of me i think in 5th....we were battling for a few laps through traffic that held him up but it was a green flag race start to finish so unless you can get to the outside fast enough to avoid the bunch ups it's tough. trust me he is still very fast there are many quick cars with two more of the fastest next week when my teammates #00 matt and #45 colt are back it'll be even tougher this week but a good show no doubt......
i made my mistake early getting caught low and having to slow up once and that finished my hopes....i saw dave go where i should have gone and that's the last i saw of him...
as far as the tech stuff goes that's all just part of running up front it was that way with colt as well at tech before but as long as you pass i wouldn't let it bug you too much it'll probably happen again....
Oh I know all about tech. My grandfather Ken Bemrose raced for 11 years, and won his championship in 2004 I think it was.. and I was around every week. Been around the scene many years.. and depending on who is in tech (officials I mean...) I know for the LLM's only a certain number of people could be with your car.. I don't remember the # it was but I do remember having to stand by the tire shed with my grandmother! lol AND we we're part of the crew!! That never would have flew with the Late Model guys, and it's got nothing to do with hiding anything, it's got to do with the fact that everyone every racer deserves to have the privacy when being teched. Your always going to have some guy trying to sneak a peak - but there must have been not even kidding.. 6 - 8 guys standing around. One even argued with me about how much Dave's car should weigh. Never the less, the tech officials were made aware and acting quickly at kicking the people out.
They weighed him and whistled his motor. I think that was all.. I went back to our pit area when they put the hood up - cause I wasn't going to be much help! lol
