Does it work to even the field?
Yes weight penalties work. More and more people are also figuring out there RWD 12v 8V cars, take 240 for instance he can walk on any 16v Honda in the straights and when he keeps his car hooked up in the corners they can't touch him. Same thing with a bunch of the mustangs.
I hear so many people whining about not being able to touch these 16v cars when in fact at sunset their are 14 of them running and only 4 or 5 ever finish in the top 5, and these guys have spent the time figuring out how to dial these cars in.
240 is one of the few guys that has taken a rwd 4cyl and spent the time to do the same and it has paid off large for him.
You can't take your wifes grocery getter and jam some tubing in it and expect to go out and win some races anymore like you could when this class first started.
Next year we will be bitching about 240's lol.
Bottom line is, if you have the resources, the coin and the time your going to win races, and if you don't your gonna get your ass handed to you in this class and complain about the guys that do.
excellent post

+1
Indeed a very excellent post. Penelty weight works and it has been proven take for example the 45 of "Classic"Colt Carcone. With all the penelty weight he has accumulated he now hits the revlimiter shortly after the starters stand, not where you want to be letting off for the corner. Now there are ways around this in just simply playing with tire size, which is gonna then give you the power but is it going to get you through the corner? maybe maybe not, thats the time factor that plays in, i mean wednesday nights at sunset and the odd once a month at barrie are there for, and how many out there take advantage of this, every once in a while one of the top 5 in sunset points is out testing, i think 240 has done the most so far this year. At sunset this year we have had 16 cars with 16v motors run and only 6 of those have on features, other than that its been mustangs and 240's in 15 nights. So if you have the backing and have done your homework like the top points guys you should be able to compete for a win each night.

The only way to get around the rev limiter is going to be with bigger tires which will not give you more power. The car you are talking about already runs the biggest size tires you can. If he (or others) are hitting the rev limiter it is because they have got on the throttle so soon in the corner.
