I dont mean to be a jerk.. but I have seen the OSS at both Sunset and Barrie Speedway.. and it was probably the least competitive touring series I've ever seen.. At Sunset there was only one car that would turn. The rest handled like dump trucks. And at Barrie I watched Matthews lap the field 2 or 3 times for 3 50 lap races in a row
That was back when the series had begun on its own, and there weren't vary many competitive cars because of the seperation from the CASCAR series. I have seen this series grow first hand since it started, and trust me the competition now is a lot tuffer than it was then. The series is awesome and is the best touring series in Ontario, barnone!
It is strange that we agree mostly this time BAR, based on the past between us.lol My only issue really was the comment about it being the most competitive series in Canada. But we could go on forever debating the minor issues.lol I think the biggest thing that both series need to do is work together instead of against each other, cause I do remember the days when the sportsman series ran along with the CASCAR series you had the odd car from the sportsman series try and pick up a one race deal in the CASCAR series to try their hand at the "big leagues". Did it ever lead to a full time ride for that individual, I'm not really sure but it definitely gave them the experience in stepping up their program. And I'm thinking by doing that it might just have helped their sportsman team work that bit harder during sportsman races cause they saw how the "big league" teams worked which potentially led to stronger performances in the sportsman series. Personally I would just say they might be surprised what benefit each series could get if they worked together once in awhile instead of working only for themselves. Again just my opinion.
Id say close to half the CTS field all ran the SS. Its much more difficult to run both series now than it was then or quite a few of us would be running both. I know we would run some CTS races if we were able to. I couldnt agree more if they could work together both groups would benefit.
As far as the quality of the show. I think it has improved recently and this year should be more exciting than ever. There are some rumours flying around about some visits from some "big" names. Have to wait and see, but I for one am looking forward to this season and running the tracks on the schedule that we havent ran before.
Every year the LOSC series gets better, more cars, future star's !!
It's a great series to run, especially if your looking at making the leap to the NCTS series.
You get great seat time in a car that is very close to what is the next step up, being the NCTS, but just as important, it's an affordable touring series that runs competitive shows.
When the series first started it was dominated by about 5 cars as someone pointed out earlier, and drivers like Mathew's came into the series with a brand new McColl NCTS car, and was run out of McColl's shop. Given the fact that Mike McColl is one of the very best in the business and knows his car's, it shouldn't have been a surprise to anyone that Matthes car was going to run up front most of the time.
Saying that, everyone is catching up to the fast 5 and last year there was about 15 cars that were equal every race to run in the top 5 spots.
It's like any new series...it does take time to grow the car counts, the drivers, the sponsors, the equipment, and most importantly the fans that follow the series.
I heard Kelly Balson will be running this series,he is a hard runner and championships under his belt.I wish him all the best, kick some butt!!!
Anyword from the meeting on the weekend?
