Auto Clearing Speedway is owned by the racers, why couldn't that kind of thing work here?
Cause you'd all end up killing each other...
Didn't auto clearing shut down? There was one posted on here earlier this year that shut down. Sorry if I confused names.
With 30 years or more of racing in Saskatoon I think you're mistaken there Ross. I believe they just built a brand new facility in the early 2000's because the city rezoned them or something.
If it's run properly by the right people it can work. I think longstreet is from out there and could probably tell you more.
I think you mean race city.
Here is an update
What happened with RACE CITY Motion before City Council
Wednesday, 05 November 2008
The motion before Council was discussed behind closed doors at this weeks meeting, at the request of the City's Legal Department. The result of the discussion was that the City Council needed a more complete package of information from the City Administration on all aspects of the issue. The Administration is supposed to bring back this information soon.
How soon would likely be affected by the City's concept of time . I am hoping this month, but maybe they will take until January, or longer. Race City has had no official notice from anyone yet and this is the just the best information I can gather.
I would like to thank all of your who have notified your Aldermen and asked them to support this motion. I think it has already made some difference, Hopefully it will continue to show Council that residents of Calgary use and enjoy this sports facility as much as others, even though we are not publicly funded.
More to follow when I get real information...

RACE CITY Motion before CIty Council
Thursday, 30 October 2008
Aldermen McIver and Connelly have a motion before City Council that will be voted on during the Council meeting on Monday November 3 or Tuesday November 4. The motion basically asks Council to direct the City Administration to honour the existing lease they have with Race City. This would give Race City the opportunity to continue to exist and keep Motorsport active in Calgary. ...if it passes.
I would ask that you, as a user of this facility, email your local alderman for your business or home and ask them to support this motion, and explain the affect of the loss of this facility on your business or life.
The motion does not ask for anything not already granted by the City, and I think our Aldermen need to recognize that their constituents are affected if Race City is forced to close.
This is the website for the Ward offices:

Thank you for taking the time to do this so that your local alderman gets the message before they vote on Monday.

At 71 years old Wes is not exactly the future of racing . I don't know how long he had planned on holding on to the track but i doubt he will have it for much more then another year or so . If Wes cant come up with the $ 100,000 payment he has to make to Glenn on May 1st he might not even have the track next year.
Now this is what I like to see , the truth finally come out . I always liked Sunset over the years and drove weekly from Oshawa for many years . The Slaughter's did do a fine job of this facility and Steve always smiled and said hello wherever you'd see him . I'd bet he would have never come on here and go after the fans and racers . Sunset needs somebody to come along and breathe new life into making it shine again . Someone who truly cares about racing , brings new sponsors on board and can fill the pits and stands once again .........Now if you look closely >>>>this is post number 47 on this topic !!!! lol Just a coincidence ;D ;D
+1 on Steve Slaughter Sr... Top drawer individual... and I wasn't even there for the glory days of Sunset Speedway.
Jackman it was post 48, reply 47....muahhahaha make her a baker! hahah
