Black Flag

It is the wrong call period. If cars are under that kind of ridiculous scrutiny at the restart line, then what about the 48 car on the final restart the week before? he was very slightly ahead of the 17 car on the restart. The only reason it didn't stick further in to the corner is cause his car wasn't good on the outside. It was the same thing though at the restart line.

The fact is that it was a ridiculous call plain and simple.

I have to totally agree that it was a ridiculous call, but i think we should all give Mark and the rest of the management team the benefit of the doubt and if the rule is you get black flagged and sent to the back for jumping the restart , so be it, that's life or as monette 72 put it suck it up. Its just that i've read the rules posted on the website and cant find it anywhere. Any help finding them would be much appreciated. Thanks

I was hoping that with all the sunset people ,drivers etc. that frequent this site that someone could help me find the right section of the website for these rules, will have to wait to i get to the track, i'm sure one of the owners or management will be able to help guide me in the right direction. I'll ask at the track. Thanks

I'm kinda surprised at all the hoopla this is attracting.

That's a lie, I'm not.

There is no specific set of rules when an official can or not wave the blag flag. Officials have the option "at their discretion" to make a call for any reason they deem necessary. Whether it be a false start by a car, rough driving, involved car in a wreck, etc.

You will never find a hardened rule on when it will or won't be brought out. It's always been like that at your local track or NASCAR.

It's the same with the start. Regardless of whether a driver or fan thinks it's a good or bad start, it is what it is. All officials (along with management) use judgement, discretion, history and experience to decide when to drop a yellow for a false start (regardless of why, who, what, when, where) or to let them run.

Rules are guidelines for officials, not necessarily the law of what is and isn't allowed  (or accepted), particularly at local short tracks. Sprint Cup - yes - the level of officiating (along with just how many guys and gals are monitoring each team) goes up, not necessarily in quality, but quantity. And we all know that they've blown some calls on live TV. I repeat, It is what it is.

Venues will make changes if they think its truly necessary or make adjustments. These folks are not idiots, have one of the best programs out there, have stepped up to the plate with purse money, invitationals and clearly, got buy-in from race teams as is obvious with their car counts. Is it more competitive and aggressive than in the past - in my opinion, yep and that adds pressure to everybody, teams and officials. Likely to be wild second half of the season to be sure!

The one suggestion I would have (at their elective) is to have the tower / race director relay what the call / incident / result is to the announcer to convey what occurred, to let the fans know what's going on. The fans are there for entertainment - so give it to them. The NHL has instant replay... wish we had it too, but not realistic  - let alone the fact it often makes fans even more mad at officials - LOL.

Relax people... this is mints nuts compared to what happened in Oslo Norway yesterday. We get to enjoy racing and heat waves....let's move on. Let's race for all the survivors tonite...

48Fan  You have me mistaken with Silverstone.I very much doubt you'll see him going anywhere else especially when he said  his kids favorite driver races at sunset. I just happen to agree with him, that isn't that what these boards are for to vent ones feelings one way or another.
