Jimmie Johnson is not even the best current driver let alone the greatest ever . That said the 48 team is one of the greatest ever assembled that has been able to stay together .

Ditto on the 48 TEAM being one of the best ever as compared to their current competition as was the 43 TEAM, the 3 TEAM, the 11 (DW) TEAM (or any Jounior Johnson TEAM), the 24 TEAM, etc, etc.

Jimmy Johnson is far from the GREATEST Driver but he is a GREAT Driver. A ton of better DRIVERS in front of JJ IMO.

I disagree. I think Jimmie will go down in history as one of the greatest ever. But because he's not flashy or terribly controversial, it won't be recognized for quite some time.

The greatest car with the greatest crew chief still needs the guy behind the wheel to make it happen. So I disagree that the 48 team would do well no matter who was driving.

Yes, Chad doesn't get feedback about the car through osmosis or 'out of body' experience during the race.  The nut behind the wheel still has to be good at what he does.

I can agree with 8 ball only time will tell the true status of Jimie J . There are many sports figures who have stood the test of time Hall of Famers. What is really relevant in most sports is the equipment, and the rules they play under same goes for stock car racing. I think it is more fair to call some one the greatest who lead the decade he participated in. Personally in my opinions there are many sports figures who would be runner ups to a situation like this I think of them as Legands in their time nobody would be great without them.
