Today ti was announced officially that the worlds is into an economic recession (shocker). Canada will be the only G7 country that will avoid much of a recession, from talking to economists on the phone at work this may be the worst that Canada gets. With our dollar where it is it will save us... now is the time for us Canadians to make money it is even easier to make it when the world is in a recession and your country is doing well...believe it or not but our dollar being at par or close to the American dollar is the worst thing we can have....
The Canadian Government as u might have heard is in talks with the big 3 right now to see if we may be able to help them stay afloat. We will see what this brings in the coming weeks.
ROTFL.
All I'll say is the big 3 are (well were) worth more than the Candian government, and thats just the first flaw to that logic.
Oh but they are not Ross... Doesn't matter how big your corporation is you can't borrow more money than the government.
The United States government bailed out Chrysler in 1980 or thereabouts so this stuff is nothing new. At that time Chrysler was making lots of cars that people wouldn't buy either so here we are again in 2008, just it's really General Motors deep in the caca and the others are in better shape.
I just don't agree with them bailing out the banks. They should have let them all sink into their own puddles of greed. The public is bailing out the banks when probably 50 or 60% of the average persons on the street don't do much business with the bank because the bank doesn't think they are a good risk. Let the banks sink and make a national bank, accountable to the people, not stockholders who already have more money than they can spend in a lifetime already.
The lack of support from the big 3 will sink NASCAR... NASCAR was not all that big or special in the times when the big 3 were out... And if they don't realize that fact then they deserve to fail. The big 3 and the fans made NASCAR what it is today... NASCAR screwed the big 3 over when they allowed Toyota, but they wanted the big money that Toyota always throws around. So in 5 years when there is nothing but the NASCAR Sprint Cup Toyota Challenge we'll see who is left standing.
Thayne and Thunder6...Your both on your games...and right on track.
Thayne- NASCAR has already downsized their car counts, they just have not gone public with it yet. Even here the NCTS which started out with a guarantee car count to the tracks, went from 36 starters when they first started here, and now this years guarantee number is going to be 16...maybe 18 at most.
Nascar has no choice but to be up front with their car numbers.
It also helps when you tell people people that the top 16 are guaranteed starting spots regardless of how many car's show up to race. Pretty smart move really!!
Thunder6- very smart.... You figured out that Nascar will not survive without the Big 3,
Race Fans and Race Teams.
I wonder what is taking them so long to figure out, what you learned in just 2 hours.
The meetings are starting today, and Tex is right...the government can borrow whatever is necessary to keep them afloat, they are hurting, not dead....it wont take alot for them to atleast be in the black...the government will definietley have enough to do this. There will be a deal that is struck to also kee a cdrtain amount of jobs no matter what...the interesitng part here is that the government makes 1.5 billion in tax revenue from them a year...this is imo why they are dooing what they are to save the automakers...
Dont be shocked to see Honda/yota/Hyundai try and take over the canadian market while the big three are week tho.
I believe the time is right for North Americans to get on the bandwagon and buy North American. I get it that people are looking for the best deal but we're talking about the financial future of a lot of Canadians here.
I know that the Japanese manufacturers have plants here and that's great, but people should be buying the vehicles that are made here, not something else made in those manufacturer's lines and justifying it with saying there is a plant over in the next city or whatever. If you're thinking about Honda, buy a Civic made in Alliston. Buying Chrysler, buy a Charger made in Bramalea, etc... I know it is global motors now, with parts coming from all regions but we have to do something here to protect the manufacturing sector in this country.
The big 3 don't just make good trucks people.
At the same time I belive it's the responsibility of the North American Manufacturers to offer vehicles that people want, which unfortunately hasn't been true lately.
