A lot of talk has been talked about in regards to Ron Malec becoming the new crew cheif at the 88....
Is Ron the perfect person? Maybe but maybe this false image of security through Ron is being seen though due to Chad's efforts on the 48 team and hoping if the 88 has someone from that team, it'll equal the same amount of success.
Though well thinking about it, we have to look at how it'd affect the 48 team as the car cheif is important to a team as much as the crew cheif. Of course knowing Rick as well as we've seen him with his decisions, that'll have to be taken into consideration obviously but I believe that if Rick decides this is the best move and does it, he'd be thinking of all 4 teams and only making if it'd go well all the way around.
Also, a lot of people bring up how Jr. communicates with his cousin. Well the type of communication you get there is something that they have between them due to the bond + the fact that partly Tony Jr. allows it to continue on. That's why in thinking of this change, I'd say we need somebody whom would be able to set the driver in his place when curtain things are said, somebody like Tony Eury Sr. whom could set them both in line. Though now do you really wanna break Tony Eury & Brad up, though? Tony Eury has right now been the mentor for Brad, bringing him along with the right pieces of advice. Do you want to hurt the kid to just get what you want? I mean, we're all considering how the loss of Ron to the 48 team will hurt them, but what about the loss of Pops to Brad will affect him? JMO there are lots of considerations that should be kept in mind. Now back to where I was before, could Ron deal with Jr.'s temper? Who knows! That may be seen if this change happens. And as far as his communication, he can be good at describing the car when it comes down to it; it just frustration sets in when it all doesn't go right and a change in making it better doesn't happen - welcome to Tony Jr. So therefore that's why a change may let it been seen that he can communicate and that team can run better. Having fun - well, honestly, that's part of it when you get down the routes of racing. Having fun while being successful and hopefully that package comes together.
Though with this, a lot of people even begin to the question the driver and if maybe he is the source of the problem. Though we know he's got the talent - what do you call the seasons at DEI when the 8 team ran really well? We all know if given the right combination he can tell the crew cheif what's going on with the car - welcome to that time again, with Tony Eury Sr. So therefore it really boils down to him and Tony Jr. specifically and if it doesn't work between two, maybe they need to be seperated. We all know they're good individually at what they do. Dale Jr. can drive (2003/2004) while Tony Eury Jr. can work on the car (he had some good runs with Michael at DEI when on the 15 car) but maybe not together - maybe they don't have the correct jell. It's the same type of question that yeah Chad is good at what he does, but would he be the same with Schrub? or Dale Jr.? It's all about that combination and both people putting in the effort. I think that's why it boils down to a change that may help both halves.
I don't know if a crew chief change is going to help him. He has got great equipment. Look at Mark Martin with some great runs and you know Jeff & Jimmy are doing well.
It's official. As of 11am this morning, this was posted on nascar.com. Lance McGrew will be interim crew chief for Dale jr until a permanent crew chief is found. read this article.
