(SOS Release – Mike Ferrell with Race Report by Angie Rinaldi) - The
Southern Ontario Sprints made their last stop at Brighton Speedway
Saturday before heading west for the next two events. Jamie Collard
stepped up to conquer the slick track and stop Rick Wilson's winning
streak at three.

22 teams filled the pits on a sunny Saturday evening but the evening
would get off to a cloudy start for two unfortunate teams. Chris Jones
arrived to the track late, scrambling to recover from a blown engine the
week before only to have the brand new motor let go in hot laps. The
second blown motor in two weeks was a major disappointment to the points
leader.

Chris Durand made the 5 hour journey from Pt. Stanley, Ontario after
repairing the car from a flip the previous week at Ohsweken Speedway
only to have the Magneto fail as they tried to start the car forcing
them to retire before even taking a green flag.

The SOS also welcomed Mitch Brown in the #10b who competed for his first
time with the tour.

At feature time the Sanderson Tire and Automotive Repair Southern
Ontario Sprints hit the track with #30 Adam West and #98 Paul Pekkonen
starting on the front row. Pekkonen jumped out to the early lead but it
wasn't long before second row starter 7x Jamie Collard worked around the
top side of West and then took the lead from Pekkonen on lap three. The
top three stayed that way for a number of laps with Collard, Pekkonen
and West but the #0 Glen “the Ohsweken Flyer” Styres was on the move and
working hard on West for third. Styres would get by West and then
Pekkonen, moving into second and was starting to close in on Collard in
lapped traffic. It was a straight green flag run right from lap 1 and it
looked it might go green to checker. Styres was continuing to close on
Collard but knew time was running out and was pushing the high side to
the limits when on lap 16 he would jump the cushion and end up spinning
off of turn three for the first and only caution of the race. On the
restart, with a cushion of three lapped cars between him and second
place #71 Travis Cunningham, Collard would break out to a lead and would
not look back for his first win of 2012 with the SOS and at Brighton
Speedway. Cunningham held on to second but not without a fight as he
battled 2011 SOS Champion #51 Lee Ladouceur who came home third. The
rookie Charlie Sandercock, who was doing double duty in his Late Model,
started the feature at the tail and ended in 9th climbing 11 positions
in his second sprint car race ever.
