What do you think
Can the SOS sprint series survive much longer.
It obvious they are running fewer races at fewer tracks with fewer cars. I hate to say it but the fields are not that strong either. They would be able to make more money running as regulars at Ohsweken wouldn't they. You only get better by running with better guys.
Just my 2 cents.
Sos has a place for the budget racers who don't have a fresh gaerte on hand. Ohsweken is a palace and a speed plant and that gives cubic dollars more of an advantage. At the tracks sos runs there is still an advantage but it can be overcome.the thing is some people would rather run mid pack at ohs and make close to the same or more money than running in the smaller sos field and have to travel. I hope the sos can remain but only time will tell.
good points-personally I'd hate to see the demise of SOS as they are the one's that more or less got the ball rolling as far as sprint car racing in Southern Ontario. They are a relatively inexpensive group to book and it boggles the mind why Humberstone and Ransomville (and for that matter Merrittville) don't have them back. The big budget native owned teams at Ohsweken have raised the bar considerably which can be construed as good or bad and weekly racing at Ohsweken has created a group of racers who don't travel a lot, hence weaker car counts at SOS events.
Right now it appears like SOS has become almost exlusively a Brighton Speedway deal.
Just wondering openly if changes have to be made to save the club, i.e. wingless, 305 ci, etc. to make it unique
I don't know what they can do either. I don't know why they don't run other tracks too.
It comes down to MONEY i guess. Each guy has to decide if it is worth his time and money to run for less and maybe win against a weaker field or run for more and maybe run mid pack. I do think that the better the competition you face each week helps you in return. I look at a couple of the low buck guys at Ohsweken eg.(Chris Durand & Stevie Goldner) and I've seen them improve this past year considerably. Mind you track time does help as well.
I've enjoyed the sos sprints over the years and hope the series can continue. I've never enjoyed the prospect of the "expensive" series or division being the only option. The lack of dirt tracks that have the sos sprints in is clearly the big issue. Because of geography Brighton is where I've taken in the sos action, it seems they may be running out of time and that's a shame.
