Subject: OUR WEEKEND!!
It's monday morning and as I sit here pondering our amazing weekend uploading photos to facebook I am left with a overflowng heart. It's overflowing with emotions of happiness, greatfulness and thankfulness... There isn't enough words to express the amazing weekend we had. Saturday we started off at the Neustadt craft show with a penny table for Easter Seals selling tickets for a chance to win 1 of 10 items, selling easter seals zipper pulls and spreading the word about Easter Seals and what they do for Natalie and our family. You see in Febuary 2011 we want to go skate with the Toronto Maple Leafs and it cost $125 for each one of us to go... (We ried to go last year and Nat ended up in Emerg with the flu) And we know we are always asking for donations, so we put our minds to work on how to raise the $500 for our family to go 🙂 The table was a success and we raised $175, what a great start.
Earlier in the week, TVO had called to remind me they were coming this Sunday and that we needed a challenge for Mark. Mark hosts a show called Marks Moments, he interviews kids that have something about them that make them different then others. So we needed to come up with a challenge, a challenge like no other... So I called Denny Snider, he lives in Durham and is the owner of an race car, but not just any kind of race car... Project Track Champion is a wheelchair accessible race car that gives anybody in a wheelchair the thrill of a ride on a race track. This car also has 3 seats in the back for a few extra riders! Denny said sure but the car is in storage and the track is closed for the season, call The owners of Sauble Speedway and talk to the Thom's. Ok so I know that you can only recive what you ask for and you know me ~ go big or go home... Simple call Jason and Aimee Thom, have them bring the car out of storage and open the track 🙂 And yes, they said YES!! 🙂
While talking to Aimee, she told us about another Race car and it's driver that would be getting an extra special memorial award at the Sauble Speedway awards banquet on the Saturday night. Marvin Frieburger drives car #32 and donates all of his winnings to Easter Seals (this years total is $5,050). We 1st met Marvin in August when Sauble Speedway had a Easter Seals Corn roast night (put on by Marvin, Marvin's best friend Andy Schmidt, and the Walkerton snowmoblie club). We saw Marvin race and what a show 🙂 🙂 Hmmm, a banquet on Saturday night ~ Sure we can fit a banquet on Saturday night, why not? 🙂 I called Angela (Marvin's wife) so that they knew we were coming to the Banquet, but thought it was just to meet Jason and Aimee to talk about Sundays ride with TVO. 😉 At the Banquet Bob Bannister called Natalie up to make a speech and thanked Marvin for raising money for Easter Seals and told the crowd what Easter Seals does for our family. After Marvin accepted his award a man who we never met called Jason Parker, LLM # 8 at Sauble, walked up and put $100 on the table and told the room"we complain about a flat tire" and asked every driver to make a donation. And they did, people started coming up with all sorts of donations... Natalie walked out with an offer to bring a race car to school, 3 t-shirts, 2 trophies, 1 seat pad (which she said is for next season at the races) AND $1,700!! WOWed and speechless... Natalie, Wyatt and I meet so many great people again and of course she has touched the heart of others, but we know that we can make a difference in some of the lives of other 20,000 kids living in Ontario with a physical dissibilties. Time to go home, we need to look good in the morning for the camera.....
Home by midnight, change clocks back and all into bed. Up at 8 am for breaky and ready for TVO to come.... Looking good and ready for 9am, TVO comes 🙂 TVO is doing 2 segments on Natalie, one with Mark about being "different" and Super Citizen, an award for kids that do great things for other kids! Now Wyatts all excited, the guy from the cartoons is here!! But the red headed not so quiet-Waytt needs to disappear... Natalie showed Mark how she makes cards, sets the table, her very cool room, the new bathroom and her cool treehouse. And TVO showed Natalie her Super Citizen Award 🙂 Awesome footage and great camera skills by Natalie, off to town for lunch and to school. At school the bus came and Nat showed Mark how to get on and off the bus and then a tour of school and her desk... BUT for the fun part, OFF TO SAUBLE SPEEDWAY!! On arrival Jason Parker and the car were waiting... So over to the track and time for Natalie to tell Mark his challenge... To get into a wheelchair then into Project track Champion, be strapped in and off for a ride... Natalie's advice, HOLD ON 🙂 A perfect way to end the day, a ride in a race car 🙂
Ok, so it was a perfect way to end the weekend... And with so many people to thank 🙂
Life is full of many challenges, those challenges make you who you are and where you are today... good or bad - Lifes got them. Natalie has had a few challenges and we look at them as big, but she see's them showing people anything can be possible... Dare to do the impossible, Christina
