Any news on the pure stocks? The meeting was on the 24th.
Well the fellow I mentioned earlier came down from Sauble asking to buy his pro stock back because he went to the meeting and they are running them. He was going to run mini and said some of the minis wanted an engine claim rule like Flamboro but got turned down. He figured he would have to dump $3000 into an engine to keep up with the 78. So I sold him his pure stock back and he is pretty happy.
was it mark, jcrashm2?? im just guessing, i heard he was at the meeting and i new he bought that dirt mini last year and ran it a bit at sauble with not awhole lot of luck>>
I think they should have an engine claim rule in most lower divisions. not a low claim but a reasonable one. I would say for 4 cylinders $1000-$1500 will build you a great legal engine, anything more then that should be frowned upon....this will keep costs down and allow more people to come out and race...Same with other divisions. Looking at Pro Stock/Thundercar/Street Stock or whatever you wanna call it.....you can get a great GM crate motor 350 ready to go for around $3500....make that a claim rule for them...Many cars in this class have $10,000 motors and are walking away with the competition. It should be the best driver who wins, not the guy with the deepest pockets......from the cheap seats, I'm Steeve Melson....lol
I like what your saying Kahne, except for the crate motor claiming. The whole idea behind a claim rule is to make sure people with the "deep pockets" don't spend a fortune to race around everyone. This is why it applies to the built motors. With the crate, you know exactly what was spent and you assume that engine is sealed and in the same condition as when it was manufg'd.
Wait, don't jump all over the "assume" please. Yes I know there are rumours about cheater crates. Mostly, these are "created" and performed by the engine builders that have been making a great living for years. Watch and see who the first to scream are!
Any way, the tracks that have crate rules include provisions for them to confiscate, claim, and re distribute these engines.
The deterent to cheating is the sealing of the engine. The deterent to cheating with a built is the claim.
Besides, I'm sure you wouldn't want a crate from some of the teams you race. A good well maintained GM crate can run competetively for up to 6 years with reg. valve spring changes. I doubt theres a built out there that can claim that, at least not fom an engine builder, they like those rebuild dollars in the winter.
