The LM race had some bad luck for four cars - before the race could even start. Watson (9) broke before the pace lap (Hydraulic Clutch) which was brand new. He took the green flag and then parked it, as did Lance Foster's X car with a water pump pulley that self destructed, during warm up laps. The 48 Baker's engine died early on (Ignition) and so did Kyle Baker's 18 car though I'm not sure what took him out, but it happened at the exact same time coming in to turn 3.
After several cautions for minor spins, nobody had anything for Tremble during each double file restart, and simply drove away from the field. Tony Tiemersma (3rd?) who had a few tough battles during the 1st heat race, which tore up his left rear quarter panel, finished strong as did the usual suspects that are top runners such as was John Baker Jr. running in Randy Freeman's #23 (4th I think).
Darren Kearnan in the #55 Joe Jessup car ran well in the heats but struggled during the feature as it pushed all night long. Chris Mitchell in the #22 was strong at times in his heats and the feature working on it every caution chance he had but was no match for Tremble who was on a rail.
Tom Walters tried to find a groove in the feature after doing so so in practice, half decent in his first heat and better yet in his second. But during the main event, Walters couldn't make the #47 work on the inside or outside and appeared to have a push in the car as the race went on and started to slide back.
Randy Bull in the #54 also had a tough time getting the car dialed in, as he fought it most of the race, especially from laps 75 onwards. Only 10 cars managed to finish. It should be noted that the track was extremely slick (oiled from TC's and very humid and hot).
Donaldson in the TC race was strong in his first heat, relaxed in his second one and put on a driving clinic in the feature. Thayne's #14 was strong in his first heat race (2nd), relaxed on the inverted 2nd Heat but appeared to have a problem in the feature and never tried to charge to the front and I think even before half the half way point pulled off. The Thunders didn't have any big wrecks (in fact none of the classes did) as everyone pretty much kept their head on straight, despite the wicked heat and slick track surface.
Don't count on that to hold when AC shows up! 🙂
Thanks for the rundown! 🙂
I heard from Thayne on his facebook that he had some overheating issues.
