As a smoker the only problem I have is,are we smokers going to be restricted to terrible seating. I am waiting for an answer from a certain smoker b4 I give JP my money. On the bright side the weather looks awesome and there is always good stories after its over. I hope it all works out and everyone enjoys themselves.
p.s. some smokers are very considerate of others, dont paint them all with the same brush.
I'm divided on the issue. I smoke, but I get the other side too. Personally, I feel uncomfortable just sparking one up in a crowded grandstand. Luckily enough at Delaware, I can just slip up to the top of the hill and have one where I'm presumably not bothering anyone. (I will occasianally smoke if the area I'm in isn't that busy, or if its mostly guys I know.)
Tracks have to be careful how they deal with this. Problem is, with stock car racing, there's a lot of fans who smoke. Tracks are having trouble enough filling the seats without getting all nazi-like about the guys who smoke.
And I do not beleive the idea that there's a million non-smokers who are not going to the races just because of cigarette smoke. K-Man is right: there's a gazillion particles of crap in the air at a race - banning smoking is kind of like trying to put out a house fire with a glass of water. Not that logic ever stopped a hard charging anti smoking advocate.
Having said that, I've no issue with smoking and non smoking grandstands. Unlike indoors, a non-smoking section makes sense. And I get it that someone doesn't want to end up spending an evening having smoke blown in their face. For a non-smoker its pretty gross. (Just don't gimme any hooey about a guy's smoke hurting you from 3 rows down in open air. Fine if you don't like the smell....but let's get real.)
I just don't want to see a smoker's ghetto at the race track. We pay just as much to get in as a non-smoker, and at most tracks there's plenty of room for both.
It's open air....so let's not go overboard with it.
For those of us with kids that complain about the person right in front of them lighting up its hard.
But seeing I had an asthma attack after breathing nothing but the fumes coming from the track it can go either way.
For non smokers its the smell on top of the fumes from the track. But you have to take one with the other.
I think its a great idea to have a smoking section. no its not going to be inforced because it will be to hard. But give it time and eventually it will take and there will be a smoking section. And all will be happy.
here we go again, smokers might as well be diddlers the way we get treated! i'm considerate when i smoke in the stands and try to blow the smoke upward and watch where my smoke is drifting from my cigarette. how many times do i have to sit beside some unhygienic, b.o reeking scumbag who doesn't believe in deodorant or soap for that matter. that SMELL is caused by unhealthy bacteria!!!!! HELLO, smokers always get blamed for everything. so enjoy another diet soda, sweetened by a proven poisonous additive and that big bag of chemically preserved potatoes and then you can hop in your bunny killing polluting diesel car and put your feet up at your mould infested home and think about how nice it was not to smell a cigarette! unfreakin real, get a grip people cigarettes aren't the cause of everything evil. oh i almost forgot the slobbering drunk cursing and swearing in front of your little kids, sorry, i forgot maybe the smokes made them that way!!!
Smoking is your choice not ours. Its one thing if someone wants to drink a diet soda ( which has been proven over 5 times in several different studies to be safe) or eat a bag of chips that is anyone's choice the same as smoking. The only difference is if a non smoker drinks a diet soda or eats some chips it is their choice. If someone smokes near them they have to suffer through no fault of there own. If someone chooses to smoke that is there decision and they should have to suffer the consequences of doing it not the people who have made the decision not to smoke.
