Throttle is Open for Earl Gaerte Classic Event Saturday Night
By: Anita Soltis
(Plymouth, IN) It’s one of the biggest nights of the season and you need to see it to believe it.
The Sprints on Dirt Series (SOD) will bring in some of the best Winged Sprint racers in the country to Plymouth Speedway Saturday night. One of those drivers is Danny “The Dude” Lasoski who will bring his knowledge of racing and his love of dirt tracks behind the wheel of Mark Burch’s No. 11M. Mark Burch is expected to make the trip from Lincoln, Nebraska to see how Lasoski will handle the field in the feature event.
Lasoski has won numerous championships and was inducted into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame in 2011.
The SOD series drivers ran twice at Plymouth Speedway last year and some of your favorite drivers will be returning to race for the trophy.
One interesting twist for Saturday night’s race will be the Earl Gaerte Challenge. Gaerte Race Engines in Rochester, Indiana is sponsoring this challenge that involves one lucky fan. The challenge offers $500 in both the SOD Winged Sprints and UMP Modifieds. Joe Gaerte from Gaerte Race Engines said if the pole sitter wants to race for this additional $500 that driver must agree to give up the pole for the feature and start in a position between 11 through 20. If the driver wins the feature from that starting position, they win the extra $500. The driver won’t choose the number. A lucky fan gets to draw the number from a hat after the driver chooses to take the challenge. If the pole-sitter opts out of the challenge, then the outside pole-sitter gets the same opportunity.
The Thunder Stock and Super Street Divisions will join the UMP Modifieds and Sprints on Dirt for a full action-packed night of full-throttle racing on the dirt track.
Gates will open for the Earl Gaerte Classic at 4 p.m. and racing begins at 7 p.m. ET. Come early and watch hot laps an hour before the races start. Pit passes are $25.
