PASS SOUTH - Canadians John Fleming and Lonnie Sommerville have both filed entries for this coming weekend's Mason_Dixon Meltdown at South Boston Speedway (VA). (10-20-08)
Anyone ever make the trek down south to see one of these races?? I know the 00 car ran really good at the first event of the season. It always seems to be the guys from the east coast who seem to be making attempts down south.
Qualifying is done down at South Boston. John Fleming is starting on the outside of the front row and Lonnie Sommerville is starting in 11th in the 250 lap race tonight.

Good run by Lonnie & I am taking it that John had problems to finish that far back after a good qualifying position. Both have been pretty much consistent when running with the PASS series on a semi-regular basis, but too bad that a few other top runners from down east couldn't or wouldn't make the trek down there. I am assuming it is distance that kept them away & maybe work? I think that guys like Dave O'Blenis, Ian Mollins (if he is still racing down there that is) would do well among others maybe.
John crashed in the first part of the race. Lonnie was in the top 5 for most of the night until the end, they did black flag him for a little bit because of some excessive smoking due to damage on the front end.
Wonder if anyone will make the journey down in december for the Snowball Derby to race. I think Shawn McWhirter finished 5th down there 2 years ago? I'm hoping to get some holidays and make the trip down to watch for the weekend. There are more then 100 cars registered for the Snowflake entry list according to the website.
