GALES AUTO AFTERMARKET AND ESSO SPEEDWAY VARIETY PRESENT FRIDAY NIGHT THUNDER THIS WEEK AT OHSWEKEN

by Tommy Goudge (August 19, 2009) – Another exciting edition of Friday Night Thunder will take to the track this week at Ohsweken Speedway when Gales Auto Aftermarket and ESSO Speedway Variety present the action.  The Corr/Pak Merchandising Sprint Cars, ESSO Thunder Stocks, ESSO Mini Stocks, and Bombers will all be in action, along with a Flag Pole Race!

Tom Huppunen leads the Corr/Pak Merchandising Sprint Car division standings heading into this week’s action, followed by Glenn Styres, Kevin Job, Dave Dykstra, and Keith Dempster.  Huppunen has claimed an amazing six feature wins at the track this season, but his fellow competitors are sure to do everything in their power to keep him behind them as the championship chase heads towards a conclusion.  Ryan Hunsinger and Dain Naida also have Corr/Pak division feature wins to their credit this season, while drivers such as Mikey Kruchka and Jamie Collard have been knocking on the door as well.

In the ESSO Thunder Stock division, Shayne Pierce still leads the points standings by a slim margin over Billy Bleich.  Jamie Cox again outdueled Pierce for the feature win this past Friday to claim his third feature win in a row and fourth overall this season.  Bleich settled for third place on Friday night, keeping Pierce within striking distance, while Brad Herron had a strong run in fourth, and Mike Thorne finally avoided the bad luck that has followed him around all season to come home with a solid fifth place finish.

Mitchell Brown’s ESSO Mini Stock points race winning streak finally ended as Steve Hess passed Brown for the lead and held on for the win on Friday night.  Brown still leads the points standings by a healthy margin, while Kevin Hilborn, Mike Evers, Rick Emberson, and Dave Goodacre fight over other spots in the top five.  Brown was able to come home second last week, followed by Hilborn, Abel Castelein, and Rob Goulding.

Rodney Rutherford showed his fellow Bomber drivers how to get it done last Friday, driving from the back to the front to claim his fourth feature win of the season in style.  Points leader Karl Sault was able to hold on for second over Jesse McDonald, while Adam Reidel and Kacey Huffman rounded out the top five.
