COOL OFF WITH “CHRISTMAS IN JULY” FRIDAY AT OHSWEKEN SPEEDWAY
by Tommy Goudge (July 19, 2011) – Southern Ontario is experiencing a
heat wave right now, but Ohsweken Speedway is going to celebrate a
winter holiday during this week’s edition of Friday Night Thunder.
Outhouse Image and Design presents “Christmas in July” this Friday, July
22, featuring Santa Claus and Autograph Night, kicking off a busy week
of four races in eight days. All of Ohsweken’s weekly divisions will be
in action, including the Corr/Pak Merchandising Sprint Cars, Lighthouse
Tattoos Thunder Stocks, HRW Automotive Mini Stocks, and Pierced Parts
Bombers.
CORR/PAK MERCHANDISING SPRINT CARS
Fenwick’s Jim Huppunen won his second consecutive Sprint Car feature
last Friday night, and extended his points lead over “Tilbury Tornado”
Kyle Patrick as well. Burford driver Jamie Collard finished 7th on
Friday, and is still 3rd in the standings, followed by Dain Naida of
Tecumseh, Michigan, and Brantford’s Mitch Brown, who are tied for 4th.
LIGHTHOUSE TATTOOS THUNDER STOCKS
Larry Czinege, Jr. wasn’t able to compete last Friday due to an injury,
and gave up the Thunder Stock points lead as a result. Caledonia’s Mike
Thorne is now at the top of the standings, followed by Brantford driver
Brad Herron, who won the feature last week. Devin Habiuk of Port
Robinson sits 3rd in the standings, followed by Caledonia drivers Ryan
Dinning and Lee Winger.
HRW AUTOMOTIVE MINI STOCKS
Burlington’s Jeremy Hughes won his first ever Mini Stock feature last
Friday, but it’s fellow rookie Karl Sault of Dundas who continues to
lead the championship standings. Brantford’s Jake Brown is second in the
standings, followed by Cayuga driver Abel Castelein, Mike Evers of
Caledonia, and Hughes.
PIERCED PARTS BOMBERS
Jesse McDonald of Caledonia barely held off Waterdown's Rodney
Rutherford to claim the Bomber feature win last week, but it's
Rutherford who leads the championship chase. Another Waterdown driver is
2nd in the form of Trevor Roszell, followed by McDonald, and a 4th place
tie between Rockton's Matt Smith and Hamilton driver Jeremy May.
