PIERRE BOURQUE TURNS NATIONWIDE SERIES LAPS IN MONTREAL

Ottawa, ON (August 25, 2010) NASCAR driver Pierre Bourque made his initial laps with the NASCAR Nationwide Series competitors this past weekend at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal.  In an arrangement with Specialty Racing from Statesville, North Carolina and with sponsorship from Avaya that came together quickly the team hit the track Saturday.

Bourque has raced in numerous high levels of motorsports in a variety of racing series but his initial outing in a Nationwide car was a special moment for him.  “From the time I decided that I wanted to race in NASCAR my hope was that I’d be able to get into a Nationwide car” said Bourque.  “And I’m grateful for getting that opportunity with the #61 Avaya Car at this great track Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.

Adapting to any new car there is a period of adjustment for the driver and for the team and that was the case with the #61 Avaya Car.  “The cars are wonderful to drive and I just wanted to learn as much as I could as quickly as possible” said Bourque.  “The team was terrific to work with giving me good information and we made some good progress”.

During practice the #61 Avaya team looked to be on track to qualify and get into the race on Sunday afternoon.  Bourque did complete qualifying but with some difficulty.  “Wee had too much rear brake bias dialed into the car” explained the driver.  The team was hopeful of being quick enough to make the field but it was not to be.

Bourque’s lap time fell short of the level necessary and the team was unable to participate in the race.  “It’s been a terrific experience to work with everybody on this team.  My sponsor Avaya is hugely excited about what we were able to do this weekend.  Sure we all want to be in the race but now and then even the best of us fall a little bit short, that’s just par for the course” concluded the driver.

The disappointed only served to reenergize everyone involved about the next Nationwide experience.  “We all learned a lot about what it takes to compete at this level.  The #61 Avaya Car looked great and we’re all chomping at the bit to do it again” stated Bourque.
