NASCAR really needs to look into having double catch fences. You have the one by the track and then have one before the seating. I feel this is only the true way to make it safer for the fans. Yes you will still be able to see the cars go by and it will help make sure big car parts don't get by the second fence when the first one breaks from the impact of a car hitting it.
I know I sat at MIS for 10 years and 8 them were in the front row and I I don go back to MIS I will make sure it's higher up.
I hope everyone is OK that was in the stands.
This is going to be a big ugly legal mess as everyone from the Track, Nascar, Car Builders, Tire Manufacture, Fence builder and installers and drivers are going to be called in to this legal battle of who's fault it is.
In the tri-ovals at Daytona and Talladaga perhaps. This is where the biggest risk is as history has shown.
Also I think in this case the cross-over gate was a huge part of what happened. Just watching now and the repaired fence doesn't have the gate. The gates at all tracks will likely be looked at. Remember Bristol?
Make sure to read your ticket, it covers Nascar as it a lot of these scenarios. The main part of debris that injured the fan was teh tire that cleared the catch fence.
Nascar will look at all this over and over again and I am sure more safety procedures will be installed in the next few weeks as the have showed in the past that they react to situation like this very quickly. If you are worried about the fences at NASCAR take a look at the fences are your favorite home track and think about how safe they are. Just ask the fans at Flamboro last year when a LM jumped the fence and people stood in the same place the following week and the track didn't even do any major repairs to the fence.
I have also heard that the news out of Daytona tomorrow will not be good as it concerns the status of two of the fans involved.
What about a high strength mesh netting attached to fences in the critical areas of fencing.
why not a high strength mesh netting and 2 catch fences and maybe a little bit higher that way there could not be any way the fans get hurt.
