New Nationwide Team Announced
Racin' Today < http://www.racintoday.com/archives/26007> is reporting that a new
race team, Go Canada Racing, will be located in the Nashville area and plans to
make their debut in the Nationwide Series in the Nashville 300 on April 23.
Unlike some of the rumors that have been reported over the past couple of weeks,
the new team is not an outright purchase of Baker-Curb Racing, another
Nashville-based team.
The new team, owned by Canadian millionaire Steve Meehan, will field Canadian
native JR Fitzpatrick behind the wheel and run the No. 67. The team has
acquired some equipment from Baker-Curb Racing in order to launch the team, but
did not buy the operation outright.
"We sold a transporter, two race cars and some pit road equipment, but selling
off some assets is not the same as selling the team," Baker-Curb Racing co-owner
Gary Baker said. "We have not sold the team."
Despite not outright selling the team, Baker has parked the No. 27 team for the
time being due to lack of sponsorship. However, the team is still actively
searching for backing.
Fitzpatrick drove the No. 27 for Baker-Curb Racing at Daytona and Fontana
earlier this season, bringing sponsorship with him from Schick Canada. In those
races, Fitzpatrick crashed and finished 40th in Daytona, while he finished three
laps down in 20th at Fontana. Baker admits that Meehan was footing much of the
bill for the team in the races that Fitzpatrick ran.
