So the cars came out and said were not going to try so quite after 2 laps?
That's the long and the short of it.
I'm not sure you are really bashing the start and park Canadians, you are just pointing out what I've been trying to understand. I know that the teams had no intentions of being competitive since they do lack the major funding. But as we saw in the NCATS race (for those that watched it on RDS) and as pointed out by numerous posters in here the cost of running the race are much diminshed compared to a oval race. And with things changing so quickly as cars dropped out legitimatley with problems the other cars would gain spots and guess what that means a bigger pay cheque. So I agree with Canadian on this one kudos to Ranger and Boys for running the full Nationwide race. At least Ranger got mentioned during the coverage as there was no talk about Dj during the race from what I saw.
I think the point of it all is why not show what you can do cause you just won't know how much it could have paid off in the end.

Because you pay to rent the motor on a PER lap basis, how do you decide when the magic attrition point is??? Scott Pruet finished 14th last year(2007) and the team took home $35,500. So lets see. JR gets $31,473 for taking the green. Pruet runs 74 more laps for $4027. Assuming $100 a lap for the motor(just a guess) we have an approximate loss of $3300 and that doesn't include tires and fuel.
So unless Thompson and Steckly have a way of paying for all that stuff, NO car owner would let them run around on the owners dime, just to prove themselves. Then who pays if you get caught up in a caution wreck and wad it up???
There is always low budget teams asked to fill the field. Nascar has to have 43 starters , that is their tradition so they do what they have to to ensure that number starts the race. I don't see it as a slight to anyone that they get an oppurtunity to start knowing they will be only running a couple of laps. They have that understanding before they even unload.
OK but Thompson has a big name sponsor so they didn't want to step up to the plate like Rangers sponsors did. The race was in Canada and Home Hardware is in Canada. I guess that shows that they knew that he wouldn't run up front to get mentioned so why bother sponsor him for this race? I guess there is a lot of factors to this and it is true it looked like they had a few fillers to make it a full field. I would say there was about 5 - 7 fillers then.
I wouldn't be made if they started 34 or 32 cars, what is wrong with that?
