Uhh, Thompson and Steckley got 1000 to race from the team (MSRP Motorsports), not NASCAR.

I think you may be missing the point of your C & P. If there were only 22 cars like in 75' at richmond you wouldnt be watching it on TV. Field fillers, fact of life get over it.

That was a fun fact. the 22 car race. What does TV have to do with the point of fillers?

Field fillers, fact of life get over it. So this can't be questioned?

We know at one time there wasn't a needed as they had more then enough cars to use 43 spots and even NNS director has talked about maybe shortening the field in the NNS in 2009.

I'm curious to why they are needed. I'm not here to fight with people over this but people seem to be upset yah I ask this question.

I know they use them and might never stop but the question is why do they feel they need to have 43 cars to start a NASCAR race.

I'm not allowed to ask why they do this or feel they need a 43 car field?

Hill3 is correct I beleive. When Nascar negotiates their contract with track owners , my best guess is the guarantee 43 starters for Nationwide and Sprint cup events, and then do what they have to to complete the deal. I agree the field fill deal is a waste , but it is what it is, and it ain't going to be changing anytime soon. The low budget teams basically make their living on this.  I didn't notice that Thomson's car carried the Home Hardware decals in the Nationwide race. I would think if it did, they did it as a freebie . I was more ticked that the commentators didn't pay any attention to our only full time competitor in Nationwide Nascar this season, the 81 McDonald Motorsports guys , and our friend DJ Kennington. To me, this is a bigger insult than some NCaTS drivers getting hired as field fillers.

In my opinion, the tracks do need to make the money with as much of a full car count as possible. On the other hand, it is not very fair(knowing that a team or teams are going to start & park)for the low budget teams that have to qualify on time.ie--last year Kennington had to make all his races on qualifying time. There were a handful of races that he didn't make it on his time trials but a start & park did--so if you would have eliminated the S & P teams,DJ would have probably made it in. All in all--Nascar & tracks run a business and it comes down to the almighty dollar--it is a touchy subject just like the cup drivers takeaway from the regular nationwide drivers. Is anyone going to start a Mosport Pick list for this weekend?? Take care all--see ya at the track:)
