Solid performance by Eddie Cheever III at Raceway Venray, keeps second place in the standings

Venray, Netherlands - After a triumphant season opener in Valencia, Eddie Cheever III put up a solid and smart performance in the two races at the Raceway Venray half mile short track, bringing home two good points finished to consolidate his second place in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series standings. On the high-banked Dutch oval, the driver of #51 CAAL Racing Chevrolet SS had the pace to contend for the win, but situations forced him to a fifth and a sixth place under the checkered flag, giving him the chance to preserve his second place in the ELITE 1 standings and the lead in the Junior “Jerome Sarran” Trophy Classification.

Eddie’s weekend in the Netherlands started with two Top10s in free practices that showed the potential of the yellow-black #51 CAAL Racing Chevrolet SS. In qualifying, the 2014 Tours Speedway pole sitter made a little mistake during his fast lap, losing the first row and posting the fifth time, few tenths from the pole. During all the race weekend, Cheever took advantage from the experience he gained in Tours last year, avoiding all risks and scoring the most points possible on an unforgiving track.
'It was a positive weekend, we were able to finish the Venray event without damages or crashes and it was our first goal. The track is very funny, typically US style. There were fans everywhere! We had a very competitive car all weekend long, the CAAL Racing boys did a stunning job at home. I made a mistake in qualifying. I could have probably started from the first row. It was very difficult to overtake, so I preferred to control in the first race and I was sixth under the checkered flag, but I had the second fastest time in the race. It means we had a very good pace but I didn't want to take too many risks,” commented Cheever. “On Sunday we had all the chances to win Race 2, but I had a misunderstanding with my team-mate that led me to a jump start and the consequent penalty costed me some positions. At the restart after the caution I was third, but I had to start from the slower inside lane and I lost two positions. So I preferred again to think about the championship and bring home the best position I could reach. I’m sorry for missing this chance, I will learn from my mistakes.”
From the Raceway Venray round, the young Salvador Tineo Arroyo is the new ELITE 2 driver of the #51 CAAL Racing Chevrolet SS, teaming up with Eddie Cheever: “I’m very happy about having Salvador as team mate. He's a very smart and fast guy. He raced using his brain without errors and he ended on the podium in his first race on an oval. I’m sure he will win soon if he will keep working in this way. He's the ideal team mate to aim to the Team Championship!”

After four races, Eddie Cheever III is comfortably second in ELITE 1 standings,  just three points back from the leader. He has a very consistent score until now: 1 victory, 3 Top 5 and 4 Top 10.

The NASCAR Whelen Euro Series circus will move to England for the next round. Brands Hatch will host the fifth and the sixth race of the championship on the same track where last year Cheever and CAAL Racing conquered their first pole position and their first win in NASCAR in front of more than 18.000 fans. “I have a good feeling with the track, we have all we need to replicate the 2014 results and to go for the lead in points.”
