FERRANDO TAKES DOMINANT WIN
The Frenchman Jumps To First In Points
Magione, Italy - September 12, 2015 - Thanks to a consistent race, Thomas Ferrando (#37 Knauf Racing Team Ford Mustang) started the 2015 NASCAR Whelen Euro Series Playoffs on the right foot, dominating from the start to the checkered flag in the ELITE 2 Semi Final at the Autodromo dell'Umbria di Magione. The Frenchman is now the new points leader with a solid margin on his rivals after taking advantage of the problems that forced Gianmarco Ercoli out of the race. Ferrando kept the lead on a restart on lap 3 and lap after lap built a good margin on Stienes Longin (#11 PK Carsport Chevrolet SS), who won the Rookie Cup classification, and Salvador Tineo Arroyo (#51 CAAL Racing Chevrolet SS).

“It was a very good day for me and all the Knauf Racing team. I am really, really happy,” said the 18-year-old Frenchman, who brought home his third victory of the season and the fifth of his NASCAR career. “I’ll start from the first position again tomorrow, so I hope to have a good pace and to win another race.”
American NASCAR driver Brandon Gdovic (#46 Precision Performance Motorsport Chevrolet Camaro) ended a solid fourth in his second NASCAR Whelen Euro Series race. The driver of the Fronius Precision Performances Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro improved his feeling with the EuroNASCAR car session after session.
Rookie Bart Van Haeren (#24 PK Carsport Chevrolet SS) concluded his first NASCAR race in fifth place ahead of Ulysse Delsaux (#3 Tepac RDV Compétition Ford Mustang), who edged Roberto Benedetti (#12 Double T by MRT Nocentini Chevrolet SS), leader of the Gentleman Trophy classification, and Philipp Lietz (#67 GDL Racing Ford Mustang). The Austrian was fifth under the checkered flag, but was penalized shortly after the race with a 25 seconds penalty for a contact at the start and slid back to eight. Martin Doubek (#15 Dexwet Renauer Team Ford Mustang) and Didier Bec (#8 RDV Compétition Ford Mustang), who won of the Legend Trophy classification, rounded out the Top-10.
After entering the Semi Finals as the points leader, Gianmarco Ercoli was involved in a contact on lap 6 and had to quit the race few laps later. Carole Perrin (#54 CAAL Racing Chevrolet SS) won the Lady Cup classification despite a 25 seconds penalty forced her to fall back from the ninth to the fourteenth position in the final classification.
