Thorold, Ontario (August 20) Merrittville Speedway is set to welcome Ball Hockey International Saturday August 29th for an action-packed Lucas Oil Weekly Racing Series program assisted by the Niagara IceDogs ,,, and of course Minor Sport Players.

“Of course we are expecting a sea of BHI jerseys in the grandstands,” predicted (Merrittville GM) Erica Bicknell, “but there are so many other active kids out there … we thought that everyone should be proud of their involvement in minor sports – so if you’re on a team … we expect to see you in your uniform.”

Both BHI St. Catharines, (located on the Welland Canal Parkway) and Welland locations will soon be taking registrations for the Fall and Winter sessions for individuals or teams. BHI offers Outdoor Ball Hockey Fun for male and female participants from ages 4 and up.

Registration fees are very affordable for all age groups and equipment costs and requirements are minimal.

Between the two locations more than 6,000 individuals take part – divided between more than 170 teams in league play.

The grandstand area of course will see 5 divisions of action with the Original Pizza Logs Sportsman featured in their new for 2009 King of the Crates Series powered by Niagara Motors.

The Niagara Motors King of the Crates Sportsman Series is three 40 lap Events - Saturday May 30th, Saturday August 1st and Saturday August 29th.

In the first two events – it has been all Greg Panunte as the Port Colborne driver has been the only winner as Merrittville Speedway is looking for the ‘Niagara Motors King of the Crates’ in 2009.

All drivers that compete in the Original Pizza Logs Division share one thing in common – the GM 602 Crate Engine.

While Merrittville’s racing season will soon be winding down - one that is about to wind up is the OHL Junior A Hockey Season for the Niagara IceDogs.

Information on the 2009-2010 Season will be available – individual tickets, flex packs and season tickets will be available

The IceDogs 2009-2010 Regular Season begins on Thursday September 17th when the Dogs host the Kingston Frontenacs. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m at the Gatorade Garden City Complex.

More than 30 families will be guests of the “Help a Child Smile” organization will be in the grandstands set to enjoy a night of racing.

“Help a Child Smile” was born in 1986 out of the need to bring some joy into the lives of victims of childhood cancer and their families by providing opportunities to smile and have fun.

“It’s shaping up to be quite a night,” boasts (Merrittville GM) Erica Bicknell, “our 5 stock car divisions … the King of the Crates Finale and the kid’s races … if there is a night not to miss this season – it’s this one!.”
