AT MERRITTVILLE IN JUST 4 DAYS

Thorold, Ontario (July 30) In just 4 days, Hingston Metal Fabricators and Toolneeds will present the 17th Annual Trevor Wilkens Memorial featuring the 100 lap Big Block Modified Super DIRTcar Series Event – Monday August 3rd.

Everybody has their own race day traditions and favorite activities when it comes to a regular Saturday Night or a Special Event – here are four that you will surely want to take part in!

Club Castropignano’s Pasta Dinner

When you arrive at the Grandstand Gates at 4 PM – you will surely smell the aroma of Club Castropignano’s Pasta Dinner – if you don’t have a ticket – you can still get one in the area near Dipper’s Turn 1 Bar for $12 on race day – so make sure you get one Saturday Night and save $2!

Meet Team Hingston

July 25th’s rain out has had Hingston Metal Fabricators added as a co-presenter of the 17th Annual Trevor Wilkens Memorial and as you pass through the gates – stop and visit with Team Hingston – former point champion Larry Lampman leads the L. St. Amand Enterprises 358 Modified Points going into the event and after winning the 358 Modified Super DIRTcar Series Event to start the season – he’d very much like to add the Trevor Wilkens Memorial for sponsors Hingston Metal Fabricators and car owners Dan and Veronica Miller!

Speaking of Dan – will he run the team’s second car Monday Night … will it be a back-up for Larry … or will someone get behind the wheel?

In 2009, Team Hingston also includes former Modern Corporation Open Wheel Lite Champion Paul Klager who will also be preparing for quite a race of his own in the Stars North Mod Lite Tour Event.

Team Hingston also includes Tuesday Night’s Lucas Oil Weekly Karting Series Drivers. Get an up close look at Travis Miller’s #87 and Donald Hingston’s #83. Don’t worry though – Donald’s Kart won’t bite – but you won’t believe the graphics on the nose!

Get a Good Seat … meet some old friends … and make some new ones

It’s been a tradition at Merrittville Speedway since 1972 – make it yours in 2009 and follow the Big Block Super DIRTcar Series to the Thorold d-shaped oval for the 17th annual Trevor Wilkens Memorial 100 presented by Hingston Metal Fabricators and Toolneeds – Monday August 3rd.

There are probably some DIRTcar fans that have not missed a Syracuse Qualifier at Merrittville since the first one some 37 years ago … and there are some that may be here for their first time …some fans you may see at all the big events!

Make them feel welcome at Merrittville – who knows you may meet up with them at their home track or at another special event.

Everyone has their race day rituals and favorite activities – so take it all in and get a good seat and get settled in for time trials!

The Race is over … now what?

Your still on the edge of your seat from watching a great race … what do you do to finish off your experience at Merrittville?

Merrittville Speedway’s Lucas Oil Weekly Racing Series Drivers – fresh off their night’s events and the visiting Big Block Super DIRTcar Series Drivers would like to see you pitside.

See their race cars up close … congratulate the winners and your favorites – get a picture and an autograph on your Merrittville Souvenir.

DIRTcar Drivers are the best and are very approachable and appreciative of their fans – so make sure you check out the pits before you leave!

There you have it – if we spent some more time on it – we could probably come up 17 reasons why you should be in line for when the gates open at 4 PM for the 17th annual Trevor Wilkens Memorial in just 4 days!

If you add your own favorite pre-race activities maybe you could get to 17 yourself!

Commemorating the 17th running of Merrittville Speedway’s biggest event - the days leading up to the event honors the memory of the up and coming driver of the Pete Cosco Haulage 17c 358 Modified – Trevor Wilkens - who passed away far too young from cancer in the summer of 1993.

From the first event in 1972 through to this year’s edition – a who’s who of DIRTcar Modified Racing converge annually on the Canadian showplace to take on Merrittville’s own talented field in the Civic Holiday Classic.

Almost gaining as much in tradition as the race itself is the pre-race Pasta Dinner served up by Merrittville’s Annual Banquet Hosts – Club Castropignano. For race fans and race teams alike – it’s the best deal in DIRTcar Dining.

Feast on fresh pasta and meatballs, garden salad, dinner roll and a can of Pepsi for $10 in advance.

“It just adds to much to the event,” relates (Merrittville GM) Erica Bicknell, “Thorold has a rich Italian Heritage and we’re proud to showcase the Club with an awesome dinner … race fans and race teams alike should come to the event hungry … I know I do … no one goes away hungry.”

Get your tickets at the track … via e mail – ebicknell@cogeco.net or from the Speedway Office at 905-892-8266. Pasta Tickets Race Day are $12.

Merrittville Speedway’s Trevor Wilkens Memorial 100 lap Big Block Modified Super DIRTcar Series Event Monday August 3rd – it’s unparalleled … unrivalled and unsurpassed and it’s a must see event.

The heart-pounding, high-powered, pedal-mashing entertainment includes a 25 lap Duel on the Dirt Home Track Event as Merrittville’s full fendered Hoosier Stocks continue the drive for five against the Brighton Speedway Pro Stocks and a 25 lap Stars North Mod Lite Tour Event for the Modern Corporation Open Wheel Lites.

Gates open Monday August 3rd and the Club Castropignano Pasta Dinner begins at 4 PM and runs until 6.

Adult Grandstand Tickets are $25, Students and Seniors - $20, Juniors from 8 to 12 are $10 and Children under 8 are free.

Merrittville Speedway is located in Thorold Ontario Canada – just a short drive from the International Bridges. For further information call 905-892-8266 or visit merrittvillespeedway.com.
