Is Racing on TV getting worse ??

I wondered if I was the only one noticing that racing has taken a back seat to most sports- Nationwide.
I realize racing is way down as far as ticket sales for live events, but lets face it- When only 2/3rds of the seats are sold for a Cup event why should TV spend more money covering the sport.

Now Golf on the otherhand sells out just about everywhere the Pro's tour and the TV coverage is better then most sports. I thought Golf was televised in order to give you something to sleep to....

Tennis is a much faster sport to cover then Auto Racing if you think about it.
Watch the Race fans in the seats when the cars go by- they first look left, then slowly turn their heads to the right.
Tennis Fans on the otherhand are in constant head mode from left to right- non stop- and allot faster...

Hockey is right up there with Baseball and Football... too many players on the Field at the same time that never stop moving and are actually only in the spotlight for seconds at a time.

Back to Racing... or did you all fall a sleep ??

Here are my pet peeves about racing on TV.
F1 Racers are only televised in the middle of the night when most smart people are sleeping.
I don't care if I miss an F1 race because just like the soap opera's, you can tune in 3 months later and nothing has changed, the storey remains the same.

Indy Car Racing has great coverage and is still covered by ABC. The worst thing about the coverage is you never know when its going to be on because your not watching ABC... your watching Speed.

That leads to my next question...why the hell did NASCAR decide that the coverage on Sports Net was going to be better then the Speed coverage. When Speed Vision covered Cascar it was great, and it played at times when most people were awake instead of Sports Net's late night air times.
Because it was on Speed, even the folks down south knew all of the names of the Cascar Drivers.

On top of that they have some guy named Vic who knows jack about racing, but talks as if he is trying to learn the game while talking about it live on the air...genius !!....not !!

The real Nascar Series does a pretty good job with televising the events, and even pulls enough strings to broadcast at real race times, but not everything is Rosie here either, from my point of view.
If I here Bogehty- Bogethy- Bogethy, or- We work hard and we Play Hard, or- Okay Drivers its time to tighten those straps one more time, or- lets hear from Gopher Cam... I am going to turn off the sound and narrate the race myself.. to myself... or maybe I will watch Golf... zzzzzzzzzz

Well in regards to the coverage of the NASCAR Canadian Tire events this year you do realize that all of the races are carried at multiple times during the week to give you a chance to find time to watch them right?  Sure the initial viewing is normally late at night but there have been at least 3 races where they have shown them just prior to NASCAR US events being shown on TSN on the Saturday.  And I'd much rather watch an event covered by Fox then I would with the likes of ESPN or NBC.  I'm going to assume you meant TSN and not Sports Net compared to Speed since Sports Net carried the races when it was under the CASCAR banner and not the NASCAR banner so when NASCAR Canada came around TSN bought the rights to go along with their US coverage.

One thing I notice is when you watch Nascar on TSN. It has way to many commercial then the TV station providing them the feed. You ever hear them say on the TV Station we will break for one more commercial and then show the rest of the race till the checkered flag.

TSN shows a ton of commercials during that time. I don't buy Lillydale and I eat at Subway once in awhile and showing me the commercials over and over is not going make me get up and buy them but it's good to know, I won't miss much of the race they air if I did go out to buy a sub as I would just be missing commercials.
