Okay, everyone has an opinion on what needs to be fixed in racing in Canada, including myself, but what will it take to make Canadian Racing as popular in Canada as the USA .
What do the teams need in order to warrant huge amounts of money out, and how do they get it back.
What is the best series to race in that will give the options, growth and prosperity.
I will give my say so on the whole deal, but not until you give your's, and that will be based on my opinions as well as your own.
NASCAR, OSCAR, OSS, DIRT, GT and so on. Every series is in trouble, so what needs to be fixed.
Solve it in this order..Coverage.. Media.. Payouts.. Sponsors.. Teams.. Tracks.. Race Bodies.. Fan's ..
Your answers will be listened to by Race Teams, Sponsors, Racing Bodies, Media, and Fans- so be honest on both sides of the coin...
Only you can make this very interesting, and creditable to say the least !!
Your turn !!
longer seasons, less hockey. we have to many different series, even in western Canada. common rules packages between tracks and sanction bodies. we need to quit stepping on the bodies of our fellow racers.let compete but also show strength as a common front.
I agree with you 100% midamerica, but aren't coverage and media on and the same?
While on the subject of coverage and media. It would be nice to have LIVE coverage of the race that is properly promoted.
Good question
1. Fans must be willing to pay higher price for tickets. (This should bring a higher purse if the series can sell the tracks a race at a higher price the the purse should go up?)
2. Media coverage in big papers. (I don't know why they don't do this)
3. Try and buy sponsor products and services when we can and let them know about it so it will show sponsors we will support them if they support are drivers.
4. Teams must do more appearances in malls or events and have ligature in the series they race for hand outs. (Racing type shows don't count as the race fans already know about the sport. (I never knew about cascar till they did the first Indy.
5. Tracks need to do more mailings and cross promotions to get the people to the tracks. (Surprising the site has been around since 1999 and not one track owner has said lets do some sponsor ads or even some type of cross promotion between this site and their track.)
6. we (Including me) need to stop bashing the series in Canada and maybe start email them our concerns and suggestion and show they we really like racing in Canada and want to see it grow and ask them what we can do to help it grow.
I don't know if these are top reason but I think some are good ones.
First of all, I think this is a very complex problem. There is no simple solution. Canada is a much smaller country than the United States, population wise. Lots less potential fans here. Also we tend to be into more of the ball and stick sports here and people are only getting into racing because it is popular in the states, and therefore a lot of people see it on TV. (I'm talking sports fans who have very little previous exposure to racing. A new market of fan). You have to remember that major media is only now starting to showcase racing. I remember when TV might cover Daytona and that's it. A little blurb about 5 seconds on the news. Now out of one page in the sports section they have about half to one page every Monday. We have come a long way. But again we have to get our local media to turn the focus from Nascar, Cart/IRL, F1 to local racing with the professional racing in the background. And I believe that some fans really don't understand that local short track racing is a constant weekly thing, it is more like a sideshow because it is not promoted and advertised enough. Kind of like the Fall Fair, you know the kind, "we go to the races once or twice a season". How do we get those people to follow the series weekly? Even if they miss a few weeks over the course of the season, but can still follow the scorecard. TV coverage would be awesome, but how would you go about it? Our local speedway used to have televised racing every week, but it was at odd hours and on the community cable channel, which no one watches. Selling advertising and getting people to watch are the keys here for mainstream TV or print media. Most promotors and staff do not have the time to market, or the money to hire a marketing professional to do it for them. There's way more here that would have to be talked about but this is the stuff just off the top of my head. The value is there ($14 for an evening of awesome entertainment is very good value in today's world). How do we get people to see it?
